Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has a "serious" back problem and the team physician said Tuesday it's uncertain whether he'll be able to play again in the World Cup. Buffon exited Italy's 1-1 draw with Paraguay on Monday at halftime, and was replaced by backup keeper Federico Marchetti. Team physician Enrico Castellacci said the problem was with the left side of Buffon's sciatic nerve, adding that "at the moment, no date can be set for his return." http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-...gi-buffon-serious-back-problem?cc=5901&ver=us
Cagliari's first choice is a good one for Italy, but if they don't go through to the next round I wouldn't blame it on the keeper!
My mom herniated a disk that ended up effecting her cyatic nerve and she couldn't sit, stand, move, or lay down comfortably until it was surgically repaired. She had to wear a neckbrace at work and she had an office job. I don't think you can play in goal with that injury. Big blow for Italy. On the bright side for Buffon, he's only 32, so he could still be in net for Italy in 2014, but if these reports are true, he's done in 2010.
