SA could be very interested in Bayless after he tore them up for 31pts/7asts. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore;_ylt=AuF928v.QPQyHiftFLQoTFfWPaB4?gid=2009122324
List of all-stars in the league currently: maybe missing a few....but Shaq KG Kobe Bryant Tim Duncan Allen Iverson Jason Kidd Ray Allen Dirk Nowitzki Vince Carter Paul Pierce Grant Hill T-mac Steve Nash Yao Ming LeBronze James Jermaine O'Neal Dwayne Wade Chauncy Billups Chris Bosh Amare Stoudamire Dwight Howard Joe Johnson Shawn Marion Ben Wallace Rasheed Wallace Carmelo Anthony Gilbert Arenas Pau Gasol Rip Hamilton Tony Parker Chris Paul Brandon Roy Peja Stojakovic Carlos Boozer Elton Brand Caron Butler Baron Davis Michael Finley Zydrunas Illgaukas Antawn Jamison Rashard Lewis Brad Miller Jerry Stackhouse David West Ron Artest Kevin Durant Manu Ginobili Danny Granger Devin Harris Al Horford Josh Howard Juwan Howard Chris Kaman AK47 David Lee Jamaal Magliore Kenyon Martin Antonio McDyess Jameer Nelson Mehmut Okur ZBO Theo Ratliff Michael redd Rajon Rondo Derek Rose Gerald Wallace Deron Williams Mo Williams
The only ones that would help reasonably on this team considering what we would give up and who would possibly be available...would be Bosh and Stoudamire. I'll add Danny Granger in there too.
Here's a leftfield idea. What if it's Danny Granger? Who would be going out? Would the team decide to go unconventional and eventually use a Brandon, Nic, Granger backcourt or would they part with Nic to get him? That would be a very, very tough call IMO.
I thought the same thing. Plus Bayless plays good 'D' which is essential to a Popovich system. Maybe Webster( They need a 3 point guy), Bayless, Joel and a future 1 for Parker. Would SA do that? I doubt it, but it does help SA improve their terrible bench with a lot more firepower plus he Webster may start in SA system. IMO Parker puts us into the 2nd round, Western finals, or Finals. The guy is tough to guard and passes very well. We would have Miller as a backup PG which would be a bench luxery and a great trade chip over the year if needed.
All Stars (within last 3 seasons) that are Free Agents or on a team in flux: (The unobtainables: LeBron; DWade; Chris Paul) Eastern Conference (easier to swing trades) Joe Johnson Pointless, as he and Roy are the same player Chris Bosh Though an upgrade over Aldridge, would double the salary expense and Bosh doesn't likely want to come here. Gerald Wallace We passed on him before he made the all-star team. Doubt we pony up the added cost now. David Lee I still can't believe that dumb jock wouldn't sign with us because he was worried about his role and minutes. I don't think the team revisits. Rashard Lewis The Seattle link has me scared a bit, but I think even Paul Allen's stomach turns when he see the "Contract". Ray Allen Wouldn't save KP's job. Devin Harris Possible. Without the 3pt shot though, does this really help a Roy/McMillian offense? (hint: no) Mo Williams A better fit for the Blazers. Cleveland was always active under Ferry. Who knows now. Danny Granger I don't think is really available. One of the few good things Indy has to work with. Rip Hamilton We don't need a SG Rasheed Wallace Ha Antwan Jamison Wouldn't help us enough Western Conference (harder to swing trades) Dirk McMillan and Dirk. I don't think so. Steve Nash New GM may look to retool. But, I doubt we go in this direction. Too old. And he is worth more to Phoenix that what they could get for him. Amare I just assume stick with LaMarcus Zach Not a chance Chris Kaman Wouldn't save KP's job Jason Kidd Wouldn't save KP's job. Tony Parker An off year of production could mean a tolerable price for a star player and a team desperate to try and snag front-court help to extend Duncan's career a bit longer. David West No point to dealing for him Shaq Nope Carlos Boozer Not enough improvement over LaMarcus to just the extra salary demands he has made. Looks like PGs are the "All-Star" players that seem most like a match to the Quick rumour.
Granger makes about $12 million a year. We would likely have to have a big expiring contract...plus young talent. It would likely be Rudy, Batum, Joel Contract, Bayless.....dunno if that would even work.
I just think it's a stupid idea to go after another wing when I truly believe Batum is going to be our starter for the next decade. PG or bust!
not an all-star but Troy Murphy would be a great pickup. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Pacers-looking-to-move-Troy-Murphy?urn=nba,249107
I'm virtually certain they'd have to trade Batum to get Granger. Granger is still the centerpiece of the Pacers; I've seen no indication that they want to "blow it up" by trading Granger. But if they did, I think a very young, extremely promising wing like Batum would be one of the main players they'd want back. They might ask for Batum and Bayless (or even more). Considering I'd think long and hard on Batum for Granger, I wouldn't deal more in addition. Also, I don't think Portland would run a Batum/Roy/Granger backcourt even if they could hold onto Batum. It's just too unconventional, IMO.
I am thinking Amare, if anyone. Contracts have to match. LMA would do it, but he's BYC. It will have to be a fairly large salary deal on both sides to make it work.
I guess that's why I called it a left field idea; I love Nic and I think he's got a bright, bright future ahead of him, but I do wonder if the Blazers would ever consider trotting out a huge unconventional backcourt where Brandon is the playmaker (with Nic a possibility given his role with his national team) and then Granger and Nic space the floor with their shot and Nic takes the opponent's point guard on defense. Granted that would be a crazy ass look and I'm not sure it would work. I agree a more traditional point-guard who can play off the ball is probably a better idea.
They don't call him the missing link for nothing... or maybe that was an evolutionary thing. Expectations are spiraling out of control.
I believe if you are incorrect on that. You do your talking through the team the player still belongs to. Teams that these players are under contract can still sign a new deal with these guys any time they want. They can also carry the communication of intention to the players agent for sign and trades to take place. So for instance, we would talk to Toronto and tell them we were interested in Bosh for sign and trade, and give them our proposal. They would then approach the agent and propose the deal and location of the trade, and see if they will bite. As long as the Blazers don't have direct contact with the player, there is no tampering.
Elton Brand is a former all-star. Not big enough to make it seem like KP walks on water, though. Depends on who else might be involved in the deal. A low draft pick along with Brand would be pretty huge.
