"For a guy who wasn't allowed to participate in the Patriots offseason program and passing camps given an NFL rule that prohibits a rookie from reporting until after his college has held graduation, wide receiver Taylor Price hasn't looked a bit out of step during the first two days of minicamp.

Price wasn't in the small group of rookies getting an earful from a fired-up Bill O'Brien for not knowing the plays yesterday. Given his time away, Price would have been the odds-on favorite to be lined up in the wrong spot and earn the coach's wrath.

Instead, he almost looks like he's ahead of the curve. Price fit right in, and yesterday, avoided being singled out by the de facto offensive coordinator for twice messing up the same formation.

Ever since Price arrived Monday, he and wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea have been practically joined at the hip. Price has worked overtime to try to catch up.

"I got in here two days ago and we've had back-to-back sessions to make sure I knew what to do, so when I came out here and got in a huddle I knew what I was doing," Price said after practice yesterday. "That was the first thing, (being able to get) lined up in the formations . . . so I could play fluid and I could play fast.""
