I'll admit it; I spend 90% of my day wanting to punch my supervisor in the face. She is the most disrespectful, stupid bitch I have ever met and I have no idea how to deal with her. Let me start off my saying that I am close with our mutual boss, and I want to make that clear because it shows just how stupid she really is. Alright, last Friday I had a meeting with our boss, a meeting that we've been trying to have for two weeks but couldn't because he was so busy. Before our meeting I decided to put up some little size stickers for the sizes which where missing on our shoe rack. During the meeting with my boss she came storming in into his office and yelled at me that the font on the sizes was too small and I have to go fix them NOW. She then spent the rest of our meeting pretending to try and find something in the file cabinet outside his office so she could eavesdrop. My boss is one of the calmest people you will ever meet, and it takes a lot to get him angry, or to at least show his anger, but he looked like he was on the verge of screaming at the top of his lungs. Wednesday I was messing around with our Plant Operations guy, and trying to to get him to give me the keys which get into every room in the building. I was telling my boss the story a few hours later and the dumb-ass overheard and then started on this "yeah right, like you would get a key" tangent. Once again, in front of my boss. Aw, yesterday. My boss was leaving early so he could prepare for a presentation he was giving later and I was saying goodbye when the dumb-ass told him "I promise I won't call you a million times with stupid questions" and then looked at me. It took me a second to realize she was insulting me, but when he did he looked really POed. Especially since this is someone who annoys him so much that he has actually tried to lock her out of his office so she would leave him alone. That's just the last week, and this kind of bullshit has been happening since the dumb-ass was hired in September, and my boss can't get rid of her yet because he needs cause, but in the mean time I have no idea what the hell to do. And it's not like I'm the only person who hates her, the entire BUILDING does.
Was she hired on a contract, or is this a union situation? Otherwise, your boss doesn't really need cause to fire her. The only other issue would be paying unemployment, but if she is really as toxic as you describe, then it's a small price to pay for employee satisfaction.
I think she knows everyone hates her, and I don't want to slack off. I adore my actual boss and I don't want to do anything that would hurt our relationship. Right now I'm using the "pretend to be innocent and play nice when the boss is around" strategy. Besides, I have the distinct feeling that she is close to causing my boss to snap and he is someone you really don't want to piss off. We have a national championship bowling team and one time they ticked him to the point that he dragged them back in on a Saturday and made them clean every inch of the bowling alley with toothbrushes, including cleaning all the oil off the lanes.
Hit her in the muscle! Hit her in the muscle! How about getting everyone in the building to eat refried beans for lunch every day for a week? I'm sure HCP knows a good recipe...
I was joking about slacking off. But when my boss annoys me or is a Dick I get really curt and rude. I work way harder to increase his work load and I pressure for decisions. I don't talk colloquially and just come in do my work and leave. I turn into a machine. Not nice at all and run around and speed things. Learn how to look at someone with disdain..and frequently ride them and criticize...complaing to others is useless...
Just get aggressive with her. Load up her workload and make her make a lot of decisions. She will eventually find it too much and quit
She is obviously threatened by your relationship with your boss. She's jealous and she lashes out at you to try to make you look bad. There's only one thing you can do... tell everyone she touched your butt.
maybe your big boss should get some balls n tell her to pull her head out of her ass and set an example for her direct reports. seems like he's the one that (if he's witnessed all this stuff) should be using that as grounds to make changes. id suggest a 1on1 with your big boss and just say WTF.... failing that, grievance in writing to the HR dept or sumshit. woman sounds lame as all hell.
Document everything she does that is sketchy....day, time, witnesses, all details. Eventually she will cook her own goose and you will have what you need to get her fired for a HR violation, harrassment, or something of that nature.
Man, everyone here works for either the government or a big company. You people couldn't survive 2 seconds here in the wilderness.
The best response is to let her attitude run off like water on a duck's back. She obviously wants to intimidate and embarrass you. Just smile and say. "yes, ma'am", "of course, ma'am", etc. Never let her see that her attitude bothers you. It will drive her to distraction. Furthermore, it will make you look even better in the eyes of your common boss. He'll see she's being ridiculous and you're taking the high road. If asked about her management style and given the opportunity to trash her, just say, "everyone has their own management style." Allow her to hoist herself on her own petard. Take pleasure in knowing that she can't get to you.
