I know it would be tough to get him and I dont know if Detroit will consider dealing him, but Antonio McDyess would be perfect as our starting PF. He would bring toughness, rebounding and inside scoring ability to our club, somethin we desperatly need. Once again, I dont know what they would want assuming we want to hold onto the big four, but he would be a terrific addition to our team..

Antonio McDyess would be amazing but he's way too valuable to their team. They won't deal him unless they get a star in return

I know this is my wishful thinking scenario. I know Detroit values him highly which is why I said its unlikely they give him up. The only reason that they might is to clear some cap room due to the fact that they will be signing Ben Wallace to a max contract this summer and Billups will follow next year. You would think they want to ensure the ability to resign these players and if McDyess' contract hinders their chances in any way, they may be willing to deal him for draft picks or expiring/low contract players.

We cant match up salaries tho. He makes almost 7 million and we would have to include Collins and he's got 3 years left on his deal

Well, currently we are under the cap thanks to the Marc Jackson deal, so if it came down to that wouldnt we be able to trade the two draft picks for him for example..Not saying its likely or anything, just brainstorming..

^whoa whoa slow down there. no way are we even close to being under the cap. Our payroll for 2006-2007 stands at 56,000,000

Yes, but right now we are under the luxury cap threshold for this season. Thats why we traded Marc Jackson..

^This is true but you can't just add salary without giving up because that's how the CBA works. Thorn would gladly give up 2 first rounders for McDyess but matching up salaries would mean either a)giving up 3 three players or b)giving up part of the starting 5, which defeats the purpose

Im not an expert on the CBA, but if you are under the cap (which I presume we are for now, correct, because of the trade) can you not go over the cap to acquire players without matching the salary?

Well, if you're 3 million under the cap, you can only add a max of 3 million without giving anything up. The Nets are at least 9 million over the cap. Luxury tax is just something that Ratner doesnt want to pay but he wants to win so he's in a catch 22. The Nets havent been under the cap in years, I doubt they've ever been. 80% of the teams in the league are over the cap

See I wasnt aware that you can only acquire a player of a certain contract value while under the cap. I thought as long as youre under the cap you can acquire players regardless of whether or not it puts you over the cap afterwards..

It's because every contract is guaranteed 100%. I wish it was like the NFL, their CBA is perfect imo
