I know we just won a championship but just to keep this thing active, what do you think about offseason? A perfect offseason for me would be Bynum, Kobe getting their treatments and rest, which is the most important thing ;D. Next if we could somehow get a good point guard, who could defend and hit the three, like Kirk Hinrich. But honestly I don't see any moves going down really..
It's going to be a busy offseason for us. All these guys are free agents. Phil Jackson Derek Fisher Jordan Farmar DJ Mbenga Josh Powell Shannon Brown Adam Morrison (good riddance) Lakers don't have a 1st round pick this year, but we have 2 second rounders.
Bye bye Ears. Re-sign Fish, cut his minutes. Go after Steve Blake or another PG who can be a perimeter threat.
Here's a list of Free Agents at the PG position 1. Raymond Felton 2. Kyle Lowry 3. Luke Ridnour 4. Will Bynum 5. Jordan Farmar 6. Shaun Livingston 7. C.J. Watson 8. Shannon Brown 9. Randy Foye 10. Nate Robinson 11. Mario Chalmers (resigned today) 12. Jose Juan Barea (resigned last week) 13. Carlos Arroyo 14. Ronald Murray 15. Allen Iverson 16. Sergio Rodriguez 17. Derek Fisher 18. Chris Duhon 19. Jason Williams 20. Sebastian Telfair
With the Lakers now back-to-back champs and going after a third in a row next season, just what sort of roster moves will we see from the team this summer? Well the point-guard position has been identified as one weakness on the team -- despite some big shots from Derek Fisher in these playoffs. Backup point guard Jordan Farmar will be a restricted free agent this summer, and signs are pointing to the fact that the Lakers could let him walk. It's known he wants to start, and it's unlikely he'll get such an opportunity if Fisher is re-signed this summer. As such, it's possible the Lakers could target Steve Blake, who will be a free agent this summer, to backup Fisher. Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles and ESPN's John Hollinger have more on this Friday: "Let Farmar walk. He wants to be a starter. It's not happening in L.A. And he has had run-ins with the coaching staff and the role they want him to assume all four years of this career in L.A. Plus, the Lakers won't want to pay him what he's looking for. Re-sign Fisher, go after a free agent vet (along the lines of Raymond Felton, Steve Blake), draft one with the No. 43 pick." Fisher should move to the bench "I don't think they need a creator at PG as much as a shooter and defender, because Kobe/Pau/Lamar will do much of the creating. I think they let Farmar go, sign a new starter as a free agent and move Fish to the bench."
Phil will be back for one more season, I think. Rings come in 3's for him. Hopefully this team stays healthy next year (or gets healthy, which one is it?) and we have a chance to get Phil a 12th ring. After next season, win or lose, I think he walks away from the game of basketball--at least on the sidelines.
Here's what I would do: Phil Jackson - hope he gives it one last shot, three peat! Derek Fisher - resigned, cheaper price, less minutes next year Jordan Farmar - bye DJ Mbenga - resigned for vet min, if he wants more money bye Josh Powell - bye Shannon Brown - resigned for cheap, if not, bye Adam Morrison - bye We still need to get another quality point guard. I would take a good look at Raymond Felton and CJ Watson, but if they're too expensive, someone like Steve Blake wouldn't hurt. He's not flashy but he can run the offense, hit open shots, and play some defense (upgrade over Fish/Farmar) which would be perfect for us. It would also be nice to acquire another swingman to come off the bench for Kobe/Ron.
I would love Blake for part of the MLE or Felton for the MLE The mega-move in my opinion is buying a mid-1st rounder along with offering our high 2nd to take Avery Bradley. Kid is a work in progress on offense but we can afford to wait a couple years while that progresses considering how good our offense already is and he is a lockdown defender. Closest parallel to him from last season I guess would be Jrue Holliday. If we can do that then we need to offer the MLE to get a legit 2/3 who can spell Kobe and Artest.
who are some of the swingmen in the free agent market this summer? i am wondering this because i think that is the position that would need to be filled once the point guard situation is resolved. on that note, i think fisher would still be a good started for us, but, as some of you have already pointed out, his minutes should be cut down. im really looking foward to next season, i think ron will understand his role more within the offense, thus letting him make greater defensive decisions. Kobe will be healed and rested from his surgery, as will bynum. I hope we do re-sign shannon, his highlight reel for the lakers is so good, and its those kind of players that fill in the gaps on teams like ours, we need that fancy play once in a while to make the crowd go wild, it really lifts the team. if he asks for to much money then we'll probably let him go id say. in terms of farmars position on this team, i think he is already gone, his hustle in the playoff has helped, but any other point guard would do the same, without the attitude and bad decision making and horrible D. it will be sad to say goodbye to adam morrison, he is funny, but yeah, he is a bit of a joke himself. it would be hard for him to get signed to another team, i dont see anyone else picking him to play for them. maybe we re-sign him for the very minimum we can, who knows.
I'd see if we can take the Bulls 17th, and I'd sign Paul George. Kid reminds me of Trevor Ariza SO much. Also, Steve Blake, Kirk Hinrich, Ray Felton, or Luke Ridnour.
Or even Darren Collison, if he could be had. Thing is, we'd have to take on one of NO's bad contracts (probably James Posey) and trade Lamar Odom Pipe Dream Trade Lakers trade PF Lamar Odom 43rd pick Receive PG Darren Collison SF James Posey New Orleans does this for 2 reasons. One is they get rid of one of their bad contracts. The other is Lamar Odom is a serviceable big, and starting him at power forward would put David West at his true position, small forward. Like on the Lakers, Lamar Odom is not expected to be a primary offensive option. He is the 3rd option behind CP3 and David West. Works for LO as well b/c he gets his minutes, and you have to imagine next year with a healthier Bynum, his minutes will decrease. Darren Collison has proven that he can start in this league. CP3 is still young, so does Collison REALLY want to be a backup for the majority of his career??
Obviously we need to get PJax back for another year and resign DFish for a smaller contract. Ideally we'd land Ray Felton for the MLE. I don't know if he's going to really be able to demand more than that. If we can't snag him, I wouldn't mind getting Randy Foye or Steve Blake to run the PG either. We need to part ways with Farmar, for sure, and depending on what DJ and Shannon want, we might say goodbye to them as well.
Couldn't agree more. Sign DFish for cheap, and MAYBE resign Farmar and Shannon so we can trade them right away. Marcus Banks is another possibility. NO to JJ Redick.
can you really compare these two? Redick stepped up these playoffs and can hit the three, the only con would be his defense imo. What Jerry West said [Taken from LG]: When Dan Patrick asked if thought that the team should keep the team intact. He said they should make some changes. - The Lakers need someone that can drive to the basket other than Kobe for next season - Bynum has already had 3 surgeries and that's a concern - Phil Jackson likes to be courted - Magic played with 5 all stars and never won a championship w/o Kareem
My thoughts exactly. Fish is a totally different player come playoff time. We need a regular season PG, so fish can get his rest. Kobe, take the freakin' surgery!
