This is either (a) a huge smokescreen, or (b) a last act of mercy from KP, to ensure that I won't miss him
+1 This would not make the Blazers a better team. I'd like more outside shooting from the PG position, but not at the expense of every other aspect of the game. Outside of guys like Paul or Nash, who are probably a pipedream, I'd just as soon keep Miller and watch him penetrate and lob to Oden.
2 things the Blazers don't need: a weak perimeter defender, and even worse ball movement. Williams provides both. I guess some people pine for the days of Damon as our PG.
age? Dude is almost 7 years younger. I'd be all for adding Williams as he seems an obvious fit beside Roy/not surprised that management inquired about his availability. I'm sure they make inquiries about players from most every team this time of year STOMP
What was Cleveland's record without LeBron last year and year before? I honestly don't think they won a single game. If that's playing well then I would hate to see what sucking looks like.
He had some of his best seasons with Milwaukee, including one which he shot 48% from the field and 39% from three. If you're bringing him in expecting him to be your top player, you're making a big mistake, but he can really be a valuable piece. Cleveland won 45 games in 07-08. With Mo in 08-10, they won 65 games and 61 games, respectively.
Mo would be a good fit with Roy, but he tends to puss out when most needed, which worries me. He is a poor defender, so if he isn't getting his points on the board, he is a detriment out there. Fortunately most of the time, he gets his share of scoring done.
I don't recall saying Mo was worse then Miller. But hey, you can go ahead and make up shit if you want. Mo isn't a winner. He doesn't get it done when it counts. I wouldn't mind getting a dude whose numbers go up in the off season (or at least remain about the same) instead of a guy who wilts. The last thing Portland needs is yet another guy who will puss out under pressure. We have plenty of those already.
$9,300,000 $8,500,000 $8,500,000 If KP seriously lands this guy, who may not even be an upgrade to Miller, I HOPE he's fired.
Fixed. Mo Williams has a worse PER than Miller (both last season and career) and while Miller has lost a step defensively, Williams is even worse. You can state your opinions as facts all you want, but that doesn't make it more compelling.
You can't forget to factor in that while Roy is putting on a happy face, he doesn't seem to like playing with Miller. If you want to bring up stats, Williams had a better DRtg than Miller last year. He had the same DRtg as Batum. Just another reason why stats like PER/DRtg/etc should really be taken with a grain of salt. Players work differently in different situations, and that's why numbers are never the final answer. edit - and last year Mo had a 106 DRtg, better than Batum this year.
And a worse one, career. While the current season is the most recent data, defensive statistics tend to be very noisy season to season. (Of course, they also tend to be noisy over larger sample sizes too...but too much so to use one season's worth as a great indication of a player's "true defensive ability"). I wouldn't lump all stats together in terms of accuracy. A production stat, like PER, that measures things with a numerical quantity (like points, rebounds, etct) is a lot more reliable than a stat that measures something that doesn't directly have a numerical quantity (like defense). Nothing is ever the final answer. But since we all have observational biases (built in ones, being human) and we don't see large sample sizes of every player in the league, I'd say that evaluation by observation, at least by fans, is even more problematic than numbers. Not that observation isn't a valid part of evaluation, but I certainly wouldn't say it trumps stats. As for Roy not seeming to like playing with Miller, I'd say that was true early in the season, but then the two got quite comfortable with one another.
