Correct 3 mil is max that can be included in any trade. That is buying a draft pick or including in a player trade.
MIA's talking about "cap space", not cash. If we were, say, OKC and had a few million in cap space, it's sounding like Riley would package up Beasley and the #18 (for instance) for nothing.

Does Daunte have trade value? Trade Daunte(minimum salary player) and 3 million. Pendy and 3 million?
Was he, or was he the second coming of Corliss Williamson? Corliss took years to realize he needed to be a SF to make it in the league, finally get into that type of shape, and find his spot in the league. I think Beasley could be that type of player still, but he needs to figure it out. It doesn't help that Miami is a bad fit for him. Too many ISO players in one offense.
True, but it would be a drop of about 1.2M, though you'd have to add rookie min salary hold (around 500k, iirc). So just selling the pick gets them around 700k of cap space. Whereas sending it with one of their contracts, (Beasely, Cook, Jones) could net them anywhere b/w 3 and 6M more of space. Which, if you're trying to get 3 max FA's, is a big deal
3 Max contracts for them (say, LBJ, Bosh and Wade) would be 90% of the cap, or 51.03M. That leaves them 5.67M for the other 9 players they have to have. Joel Anthony and Mario Chalmers make about 1.8M combined, so if they're not renounced the Heat have 3.8M for 7 spots, which corresponds nicely with the min cap holds they have to have. So if they can package the pick to get rid of Beasley and Cook (Jones is Team Option, iirc), they can theoretically sign all 3 max FAs. If they try to just sell the pick, they lose some leverage.
Scary thought . . . and with Miami being a top destination pick for many NBA players . . . very scary.
I just don't think all three guys really WANT to be on the same team. Too many alpha dogs that are too young and hungry to put their imprint on the game. It works for the olympics, but they don't have to see each other every day for 82 games and the playoffs for the next 4 or 5 years. I just don't see them being happy, and I think they themselves know they wouldn't be happy.
I was just using those as examples. Maybe you want Wade, LeBron and Boozer. Or Wade, Johnson and Amare. Whatever. Beasley and cook and the 18th pick seems << the chance for a 3rd Max guy, if you ask me.
Yeah, I see what you mean. I just don't think the other options out there are really max-worthy players. And some (namely Amare) also want to be The Man.
The most likely scenario is that they give away the 18th pick to anyone that can absorb James Jones' salary. You might remember James Jones from back in 2007 as absorbing his contract was the cost for us to be able to get the 24th pick, which we used on Rudy. I think the Blazers should try to find a way to finagle it. It would be SOOOOOOOOO hilarious if he were traded to us with a draft pick a second time solely to get off of someone else's pay roll.
