    Bucks interested in Maggette?

Now there's some chatter on the NBA grapevine the Bucks may be interested in another small forward - Corey Maggette of the Golden State Warriors.

It's no secret the Warriors have Maggette on the trading block - even though he is coming off a quality season in which he was the Warriors' second-leading scorer at 19.8 points a game. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds.

But Maggette has a fairly hefty contract - he still has three years, $31 million remaining on it - and the money-conscious Warriors would like to unload it.

The speculation is the Bucks are offering the Warriors center Dan Gadzuric, who has one year left on his contract for $7.4M, and guard Charlie Bell ($3.8M).

It's so depressing that becuase the front office overpaid him, we have to give up a nearly 20 pt, 5 reb guy who gets to the line 9 times a games for Gadzuric and Charlie fucking Bell.

More talent going out the door for the Warriors due to bad management, just like every other year. Wake me up when Ellison buys the team.

As much as the Warriors suck at signing bad players to bad contracts, they are equally as good at getting rid of those players.

My baby was born last night and I see Maggette traded for cap room on the ticker. I'm happier than I've ever been right now :)

    Re: Bucks interested in Maggette?

That link has the Warriors giving up their 2nd round draft pick, too...

Anyway, on one hand I'm very glad to see Maggette gone -- he was just a square peg in a round hole... One less guy to take the ball away from Steph Curry...

However, I didn't know Bell has 2 years left (I thought 1), so that's a bit much for another bench guy. Dan Gadzuric probably won't even be able to beat out Chris Hunter for a spot. And the 2nd round pick included...

This is a so so trade. I've wanted Mags out for a while, and we will get 7 mils cap space next year, followed by another 4 mils in two years. But the temporary players we got suck, and we gave the draft pick. I wonder if this was the only trade out there for Mags... damn if the GS players have NO trade value...

But, at least Mags is gone. That does make me happy :)

    Congrats CohanHater.

Good day in Warriors land. Yet another high paid vet dumped off for cap relief. Riley is giving away veteran wing players like crazy but thus far hes done adequately in trimming the roster he inherited. Good luck to Mags. He seems like a great guy and a hard worker. Just didn't contribute much to winning.

Interesting that the 44 pick was involved. Wonder if that has anything to do with swapping picks the other day. Good foresight by Riley to nab another 2 mil out of the deal by swapping the pick before sending our second rounder off.

Gadzuric blows but its nice having another 7 footer around. Like AlleyOop said in the other thread Hunter oughta beat him out for a roster spot and Gadzuric is likely to be inactive most of the time if Beans, Turiaf, Hunter, Randolph, Wright are all around and healthy at the start of the season. I would say he would jut get cut flat out but then could we trade his contract at the deadline? Bell is a decent bench player but at this point hes not going to get any minutes over Curry, Monta, CJ, Reggie Williams, Azu, etc. Low FG% guy but he can score, hes athletic, and IIRC Bucks fans say he plays good defense. Could be good fit in an up tempo system should minutes open via trade or injury.

I'm just glad Mags is gone. It opens up more minutes for Reggie, Azu, Morrow and Randolph, Wright, Tolliver. I wonder if we would actually be under the cap next offseason (too lazy to look it up and calculate). I thought that with our expiring this year it would bring us close to the cap line. For all we know the W's sale could take all offseason so shedding cap and having one more rebuilding and development year may not be such a bad thing. That way the new owner could come in with some cap room and show what kind of cash he can put up in his first full offseason running the team.

Do you guys think this affects our draft? Are we going after an SF to plug in? Or does acquiring another C and combo guard mean someone else is getting moved? Is it purely salary related? I tend to lean toward this being 100% salary related and irrelevant to our draft plans. Don't think we particularly like either of these players either they just provided shorter contracts.

New depth chart as of June 22, 2010:

    Curry/CJ/Bell
    Monta/Morrow
    Azubuike/Williams/Vlad
    Randolph/Wright/Tolliver
    Biedrins/Turiaf/Hunter/Gadz

Hallelujah!!! Unbelievable that someone actually wanted Maggette. I am not going to pretend that I know him personally but watching him was painful. From courtside it was obvious that he had no clue or desire to play hustle D.

The man had 4 blocks ........ALL YEAR!!!!

We get expiring contracts and save about $15M in the long run. Amazing.

    Re: Bucks interested in Maggette?

That's the one they just traded down for, they trade #34 for #44, now they're giving up this #44 in the trade, so now they have no 2nd round pick.

    Love Riley's comment:

Just like Mkki Moore was the defensive leader they had been desperately seeking in the locker room. Riley always cracks me up with his b.s. Just admit you got two overpaid scrubs for Maggette so you could free up cap space and save Cohan money.

I mean, seriously, Gadzuric is going to provide intangibles? He better, because he sure ain't providing any tangibles. C'mon Riley, you dork!

Congratulations CH -- I hope your wife and your baby boy are healthy and happy!

We have our first baby boy coming in August!

Oh, and congrats on the Maggette trade. :)

    Re: Bucks interested in Maggette?

Ah, don't hate on the canned statements. Has a sports team ever said the outright truth? "We got rid of a huge mistake contract for two horrible players. Please come buy tickets now to make us more money." That'd be the day!

I'm happy. To me, this trade means $20 million in cap space in 2011 and destroys most of the reason I had behind trying to trade Monta or Biedrins (since I thought Maggette was untradeable, I figured we had to give up something actually worth something). Depending on the draft, after this season we could throw some money at potential 2011 restricted free agents/early terminators like Carmelo, David West, Al Horford, or Marc Gasol. Even if we don't attract anyone, having the space means we can be a relevant factor in deals.

    Big congratulations, CH!

I don't see it affecting the draft at all, except that the likelihood of the draft pick being moved with Gadzuric, Bell, and Radmanovic for a veteran raised. There's always the outside possibility that they could be involved in a bigger deal in the future. (Although whenever we've acquired a big expiring contract, this has almost never happened that we moved it again successfully. Plus if they were moved, it'd likely be with a player that actually has value or the draft pick as stated.) Rumors were that the Warriors were interested in simply trading out of this draft, and with these expiring/near-expiring contracts, a team with a veteran might bite, though it's unlikely because shedding salaries while a team is on sale makes the most sense, not picking up salaries.

This is a great rebuilding move for sure, because previously we were "stuck" until the 2013 offseason. So in essence we didn't waste two years of these young guys' lives, at least giving them a chance to get built around.

    Re: Bucks interested in Maggette?

Think of it this way, because Gadzuric is an expiring and Bell's contract is in the mid-level cateogory, the Warriors have no obligation to play them (to live up to their contract). I don't know much about those players, but I think that they'll be OK on this team so long as they play within the system. Trading Maggette means so many things. More PT for Azubuike and R. Williams (and Morrow). It frees up the starting 3 spot for someone that can play D and be a contributor to ball movement, set screens, and do the dirty work with the occasional ability to hit a corner 3. Raja Bell would be nice to have but I hear Kobe is trying to lure him to the Lakers (ugh).

Yeah, the returning talent can hardly be considered talent but this was the true value of Maggette. His contract (not his fault), his age, his injury history, and his faux-defense and head-down raging bull offense didn't hold much value. Also, it was pretty well-known that the Warriors have been trying to offload him for quite, which diminishes his value further.

Hard to believe professionals (GM) think that Maggette is a replacement for Salmons. Have they even watched Maggette play? Salmons is a guy who moves without the ball, is a willing passer, a slasher, will at least pretend to be playing defense and help defense and can make plays at the end of the game. Maggette? Clear out and watch me work. Oh I got fouled. That's it. Wow, its simplistic but no way Maggette is a replacement for John Salmons.

All I know is that when I watched Maggette play, it made me less of a fan of basketball. Every time. When Maggette came into the game I groaned and mentally tuned out. So while we can argue about value to the team, this is a great day from my perspective as a fan. Frankly I thought we'd have to give up a trade chip of value to unload him and we didn't have to do that (#44 pick, OK , whatever). Just think about it, in a few years we have gotten rid of some serious ball hogs and momentum killers: SJax, Crawford, and now Maggette, maybe throw Baron in there too. This team will not be good, but they'll be a lot more fun to watch.
