The Chicago Bulls announced today the hiring of Tom Thibodeau as the 18th head coach in franchise history. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. “I am extremely pleased to welcome Tom Thibodeau as our new head coach. As I went through the process to search for the next head coach of the Chicago Bulls, the longer the process went it became apparent that Tom is a perfect fit for the Bulls,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “He is a great communicator and teacher of the game, and he fits our organizational philosophy from a defensive standpoint. With his experience and knowledge of the NBA, I am confident he will be a great leader for our team.” Thibodeau, 52, most recently served as the Associate Head Coach for the Boston Celtics for the last three seasons. As the lead assistant on Doc Rivers’ coaching staff, Thibodeau was responsible for the team’s defensive principles and strategies. During his time in Boston, Thibodeau and the Celtics advanced to the NBA Finals in 2008 and 2010, and claimed the Celtics 17th NBA Championship in 2008. http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/thibodeau_hired_100623.html?rss=true
Just listened to the conference on ESPN Radio. He talked to Waddle & Silvy afterwards. Seems like he knows wat he wants to do with the team and whoever management put in front of him
Well, depending on how things shake out, (read this in an only slightly ironic baritone voice) "Today. I might. consider. Thibodeau. the. luckiest. man. on the. face. of the. earth."
Any highlights? What if management brings Will Perdue out of retirement? If he knows what he wants in that case, I'll give him credit for being really prepared. Even more credit if his plan is to have him shot in the face.
Those clips are certainly interesting. some of what I expected and some of what I didn't. He's not the best in front of a microphone or at filtering yet, which I could honestly care less about provided that it doesn't get him into squabbles with players. It must be tough being a head a coach. VDN obviously had NBA experience. But for whatever reason, the first half season he was with the Bulls it looked like he had no awareness of how to use his personnel. It sounds like Thibbodeau may be able to skip the learning curve.
