Boston started off with Paul Pierce, who's still probably their best player. That's a pretty good starting point.

The Blazers, after Nash, had NOTHING. He had given away Wallace and Wells and extended Miles and Ratliff for way too much money. Zach had issues, clearly, and was paid like he didn't.

This team has been one of the youngest in the NBA for the last two season and has been ravaged by injuries, and yet it has been pretty successful. I don't see the last two years as anything resembling a failure.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
KP spent the first few years assembling a good young roster. It appears now that he'd like to make a consolidation trade to put the team over the top, but those are easier called for than done. Just as we know that the team getting the best player in the deal tends to "win" the deal long-term, I assume most GMs understand that history too. That makes pulling off such a deal hard (though not impossible, clearly).

I don't see any problem with Pritchard's philosophy or direction. Whether he can make that "one big move" that creates a title team...well, we'll have to see. Apparently, Paul Allen is only giving him one shot to do it. Which, from a basketball perspective, seems ridiculous...but, obviously, I have no idea what personal issues may be in play.

Boston started off with Pierce, and added Allen and KG through trades.

Why can't Portland do the same? Portland has Roy, and one would think they have at least as good of pieces to trade as the Celtics did.

    KG took Al Jefferson/Gomes/Telfair/some more

Allen took at least the #5 pick+ more

Blazers don't have that. Portland's trying to do with expiring contracts.

Because there isn't always a team willing to dump a Hall of Famer. Such deals always have an element of luck involved, that a GM has to be ready to turn into opportunity. It's not like there's always a Kevin Garnett available. There are intelligent, aggressive GMs in the league even if you don't believe Pritchard is one...if such players were always available, you'd see deals like that all the time.

But there are teams like that.

Tony Parker is said to be available

Chris Paul is said to be available for an extremely high price

Andre Iguadala is said to be available

Chris Bosh, LeBron James, Joe Johnson are all available for the right price to their teams, and a quality selling job by our front office

There are a lot of teams that are in dire financial shape. If the price were right, Portland could get them. The problem is, to this point, Portland has been unwilling to give up anything of value to make this happen.

KG took Jefferson , Gomes, Telfair and more.

Bosh or Nowitzki for Aldridge, Batum, Bayless and #22. That could happen if Bosh would agree to come here. No way KP woul dnake that move though, and most in here would cry that it was too much.

Go big or go home...in the playoffs

All he said was "likely" no big trade for a vet on draft day...I though it was a whole bunch of nothing...

Basically....Don't expect a deal for Chris Paul or the like, except maybe during the draft....lol...Way to cover all the bases there....

Of course he didn't say anything about POR trading up in the draft which seems likely....

Man, if I actually had given Quick credibility, I'd be hurting right now. Is that what his "sources" tell him? We'll do nothing...or maybe not?

Oh well. Each scoop of chum in the water gets Denny closer to his 3rd Ferrari.

Boston is not a fair comparison. It is Rondo that makes that team good. If they trade Rondo instead of Telfair, they are probably a first round flameout team that you despise.

And yet they're not all being snapped up. If they're so available, why are they still out there? Because all GMs are as passive and silly as Pritchard?

Making a deal that works for both teams isn't as easy as it apparently seems to you.

Cause KP is trying, but not succeeding in making a big splash with a trade. His forte, and it's a good one, is drafting. I can think of really 1 deal that he has made non draft day that really benefitted this team

Marcus Camby didn't benefit the team?

Frankly, MM, I could not care less if the FA can sing, as long as he can play.

    (sorry, couldn't resist, still friends?)

Parker may be, but for the right price. Haven't heard a lot on that front.
CP3 - keeps going back in fourth how available he really is or not.
AI - Blazers don't have the pieces besides expiring contracts. Doubt that's enough.
Bosh/James/JJ are all FA's and get to pick where they want to go.
