Would you rather have an ace like Kerry Wood (relies on strikeouts and overpowering batters) or have an ace like Livan Hernandez (relies on pin point accuracy and giving up grounders)?I like control pitchers better. They seem like they can get out of jams better. They can get out of being behind the batter in the count.

IMO, your Ace should be a dominating pitcher like a Johan Santana or Pedro Martinez, who does rely on strikeouts and overpowering. It's just when they're on, you can't beat their stuff. I'd take that over a control type pitcher like Hernandez or Maddux anyday when your talking about an Ace.

I'd rather have Randy Johnson a few years ago.

I would rather have the pinpoint ace like a Maddux, or Glavine over a power pitcher. Power pitchers on a whole will often rely on their stuff, and think just because they have a dominating fast ball they should use it. There are exceptions obviously, but alot of the power pitchers are like this. Also the control pitcher is going to be around longer, because what he does puts less stress on your arm than trying to trying to throw as hard as you can every game.

Control Pitchers because they are consistent. You never know what will happen with power pitchers. They could be on and give up a 2 hit game but also they could throw it high and give out a field day for the batters..

Greg Maddux in his prime as an Atlanta Bravo.
