<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>DALLAS -- Mavericks coach Avery Johnson has a message for his team in the wake of Jason Terry getting suspended for punching San Antonio's Michael Finley between the legs: Don't hit, grab. "I guess maybe if he would've grabbed him, he wouldn't have gotten suspended," Johnson said Friday, hours before Dallas faced the Spurs in Game 6 of their second-round series. "You grab, you don't get suspended," Johnson said. "But the rule is clear: You punch, you get suspended. "So, next time, grab." The Mavs went into Game 6 without Terry, their second-leading scorer, but holding a 3-2 lead in the series. Dallas is a victory from knocking out the reigning champions and advancing to the conference finals or a loss from having to play Game 7 in San Antonio. Johnson's interpretation of the rules is based on facts. During the first round, Denver's Reggie Evans reached into the shorts of Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman but didn't miss any time. He was assessed a $10,000 fine and a flagrant foul penalty two. "Certainly one clear difference is in the case of Reggie Evans we didn't have a clear view exactly what happened," Stu Jackson, the NBA vice president who handles such punishments, said Thursday. "We understand he reached underneath the player, but you couldn't see the end result. It's really an apple and an orange." Terry called the league's decision-making "very inconsistent." Terry and Finley jostled with 3.4 seconds left in San Antonio's 98-97 victory in Game 5 on Wednesday night. Terry was on his back after grabbing a loose ball, then Spurs forward Manu Ginobili leaned on his waist and put a hand on the ball. Then Finley reached in and leaned on Terry's head. Replays clearly show Terry retaliated with an uppercut to Finley's crotch. Spurs point guard Tony Parker said justice was served. "Jason Terry has been throwing a lot of punches in the series," Parker said. "He's gotten me so many times with cheap shots." Although Terry was the starting point guard all season, Devin Harris took over that role in Game 2. Terry's minutes at off guard likely will be shared by Jerry Stackhouse, Marquis Daniels and Adrian Griffin. Veteran point guard Darrell Armstrong, who was inactive the last two games with a knee injury, also could be used. "We believe we have enough players who can step in and make big plays for us," Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki said. "Our bench was big all year in winning 60 games." Terry learned about the punishment after practice Thursday. He apologized to his teammates Friday, calling his discussion with Johnson the toughest. "Everybody involved said they got my back," said Terry, who planned to watch the game from his home. "You've got to kind of use it as motivation," Harris said. "There's no point in crying about it. We've been dealt the cards. Now we have to play them." Mavs fans likely will respond by booing Finley louder than ever. They're already been jeering the guy after spending the last nine years rooting for him.</div> LinkThe league offices are so full of sh*t. They say that they cant see what happened with the Evans deal, but its so clear in this one. What'd i tell you guys about the Spurs? They love to be the ones to be physical, but hate it and complain when a team hits back. They all cry to the officials and want the Mavs to play nice. Parker and the Spurs are the biggest pussys in the league. I like how the Mavericks arent dwelling on the situation, but rather using as motivation. I think we close the series out tonight.
I'm sorry, but if Terry did take a shot at Finley's groin, then he deserved the suspension. The Spurs officials sent a tape to the league office showing the replay where it was "clear" that Terry punched Finley in the groin. I just wish that tape was released to the public so this whole controversy can be cleared up.Also, if anything, I agree with Skip Bayless (who I normally hate and despise) in saying that Cuban is intimindating the referees and the Mavs are getting more calls because of it. I know I'll get bashed for that by Mav fans, but I believe this article really puts all my feelings about the subject out there (although I agree that some of the points he makes are ridiculous): http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=bayless/060519Anyway... it should be a great game tonight. I'd love for this series to go 7 games.

You can't touch Duncan without a foul but Bowen is allowed to bear hug Dirk Nowitzki on defense. It is rediculous how much spurs fans cry about calls. Even worse is they are expecting to get the special treatment because they're champions. It makes me sick.
I'm not talking about the number of calls, I'm talking about the type of calls. Read the article. Of course you shouldn't get "special treatment" if your the defending champions, but you should be treated with a little respect instead of being treated like you are an average team. But then again... you also shouldn't be getting "special treatment" because the owner of your team is intimidating the referees, now should you? That makes me sick...As I said previously, I really don't expect any Mav fans to agree with me here (obviously), but that's how I feel.
I would hardly call Mark Cuban intimidating. I actually think it pisses refs off with Mark Cuban and more calls go to the other team. The mavs have been on the short end of the whistle for a long time now. Last year in the playoffs with Dirk consistently getting hammered at the basket and Mcgrady can't be touched. Again in the Phoenix series with Amare. As for the rule it is technically an automatic suspension but in the biggest game of the year the rules should have different interpretation. Maybe Terry could face the suspension at the beginning of next season instead of now.
Yeah if anything, Cuban would be pissing the refs off, and screwing our chances up.Yes Terry should be suspended for what he did, but Parker shouldn't be crying about tough play, when the Spurs are known for the same type of plays, year in and out, and they're put on a pedistal for it, while the Mavs are "dirty" players for it.I do think it's a little unfair that TD does get a foul call evertime he's near the basket, and it takes Dirk falling down, or being shoved to get a call, especially with all the groping Bruce does to him.Now I think the fouls are being called even, in SA, the Spurs get tons of calls they don't in Dallas, and vice versa...That's basketball, it happens. Calls go both ways during the course of a series, and game. You can't say the Spurs are losing this series, or the Mavs are winning because of calls.I can already tell that people that don't like the Mavs will have all kinds of astericks next to this win. - The Refs were out to get the Spurs(but calls have gone both ways)- The Spurs aren't healthy(Yet no Spurs have missed playing time, and most have played well)- Well this is the Spurs normal off year(Yet the Spurs had to change their style of play to match the Mavs, normally it's the other way around, and the Mavs are being more physical than the Spurs, not usual either.)
You're talking about Game 7? Well, hopefully...Dirk and Terry need to combo up for a huge night. I say they both combine for 65 points, 25 rebounds, and 10 assists.
No, man, don't give up.Dirk has to show up. He's done it 2 of his 3 Game 7's. All Eyez on Dirk, Dirk and Terry Against the World, Against All Odds!!
keep the faith, mavsfanremember last years game 7?*cough*40 point blowout*cough*allright allright, it wont be 40, it will be a hard game but the mavs should and will find a way to come out on top
I was mad about the suspension until I saw that Terry did indeed take a shot at Finley. And that in turn makes the suspension right. So I don't blame Stern really for anything. It just shows me that Terry still makes boneheaded mistakes.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mavsfan1000 @ May 20 2006, 11:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>This series is over thanks to Stern.</div>Yeah, let's blame Stern because it was HIS fault Dallas failed to win a game at home to close out the series, right? Please... Dallas was very capable of beating SA in Dallas without Terry, but they just couldn't get it done. The series is far from over, as Dallas is capable of beating SA in SA too, but I wouldn't count on it after what Cuban said about the Riverwalk and SA on the radio before Game 6... that was nice motivation tactic... FOR THE OTHER TEAM!
Why are you guys bringing up Philly when he's just talking about the Mavs/Spurs. And don't be a hyprocrite mavsfan, your calling doom and gloom for game 7 and bigmo basically says the same thing and you diss him with Philly jokes.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Waqas @ May 20 2006, 05:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Shut up, man, your team didn't even make the playoffs.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mavsfan1000 @ May 20 2006, 05:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Philly=owned. How is being in the lottery feel? </div>Wow... did you guys really feel better by bringing that up? Did it make the pain of losing Game 6 go away? I guess I should play along and start saying stuff like "How does it feel to choke away a 3-1 series lead?", or "When is the last time your team won the NBA championship, or even made it to the NBA finals?" or "When is the last time somebody from the Mavs won the MVP award?" blah blah blah...It is very funny though that when I actually gave your team some CREDIT, you resort to that... good job! I'm sorry, but you guys are very immature. I mean, I guess I understand where you two are coming from. It is only natural to start resorting to insulting somebody elses team when your team just lost the biggest game in franchise history, right? It is also only natural to start bashing the commissioner for suspending your starting point guard, and thus "costing" your team the series, even though the suspension was justified, right? It's only natural to start doubting your team when you lost a 3-1 series lead, and are now heading back to the "sh*t-filled water" (parapharsing Cuban there) that is known as the Riverwalk of SA, right? Jeez... grow up.Oh yeah one more thing I forgot to add in my last post... if you honestly think that the Mavericks are not capable of beating the Spurs without Jason Terry... well, you are on crack. The Mavericks had a chance to win the series, and they didn't get it done. If you are mad about the suspension, you should be mad only at one man, and that is Terry. He lost his cool, and punched Finley in the groin... nobody forced him to do it, did they? Now Dallas has to play a Game 7 on the road, WHICH THEY <u>ARE CAPABLE OF WINNING</u> (I thought I'd make that noticeable so mavsfan and Waqas would realize that I actually am giving the Mavs credit, just like in my previous post), but the odds are stacked against them, there is no question about it.P.S. - before this gets out of hand, let all other Dallas fans not that those previous comments were directed at mavsfan and Waqas only, not to Dallas fans in general, because I know there are some mature fans/posters here.
Yeah, Sixersfan, but you probably put playoff teams on a higher standard an then go out and say the Sixers will be great with a few off-season moves. I bet that's what you think...anyway, back to the topic. No more beef , man, I was just kidding.Don't any of all think FINLEY should've been suspended for STANDING on Terry? Stack got a technical for that off a block on Fin in Game 1, I think. And also, Finley was trying to come back and fight Terry after that.
