That makes it even odder that they decided the mortgage on the building was a big issue. I mean, you could imagine a new guy coming in and telling Paul, "ah, my predecessor negotiated a really lousy deal here, Paul, we have to get out of it". Harder to imagine Mr. Kolde saying "boy, I really screwed us on this deal, we gotta get out of it".

Neither of them did. But most of Microsoft's wealth that allowed PA to become a Billionaire happened under Gates watch after PA left in 1983.

Bingo. I forgot who the guy was. He laughs now about how he should have asked for 1% of the company instead.

BTW - Hollinger made the Gates joke as well...

"Don't cry for Pritchard either. He did a great job rebuilding the Blazers and should be able to name his next job -- at a much higher price tag than he was getting in Portland. In the meantime he'll still get paid for the last year of his contract, which is probably why he dutifully conducted the team's business instead of handing David Stern an index card with "Bill Gates, Harvard University" on it for the 22nd pick. "

You take the good and the bad with PA . . . and for me the good far outweighs the bad. I'm with OSU, PA doesn't desreve the over-the-top hate he gets on this board.

(And if the way PA handled KP was heartless, well he is the nice one between him and Gates, who is utterly a ruthless)

Considering this was clearly personal, I've no hard feelings for Allen.

    No, thanks, Paul Allen.

I wish he'd sell the team.

We were good before you got here.

    We don't need you.

    OK! I give! I'm finally a believer!

KP was a know nothing incompetent fool, who did nothing but lock the media out of the 2006 pre draft workouts.

Thank you Paul Allen for firing the man who masterminded the 2006 draft as soon as it was over and hiring an incompetent boob to run the team the last 4 years.

    Finally!!!!!

Finally the credit you and Larry Miller and Dirt Clod and Phil the scout all deserve.

Can't wait to see what you do for your next trick. I'm sure it's going to be fucking amazing.

    YIPEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to SP (then and now) he quit on his own accord. Hopefully you'll connect the dots for us as to why and reject his publicly given reasons :rolleyes2:

    :biglaugh:

Props for that one! I've been trying to work "Chode" in as a substitute for Kolde, but I don't think I could top Dirt Clod for Bert Kolde. Fucking brilliant!

True, but having his contract not renewed probably played a role in his resignation. He was a lame duck without a contract for the next season. Big deal, he wasn't coming back for 2007-08 because Paul Allen didn't want him back, and he was still paid for that entire season, even though he quit early.

It perplexes me how GMs who "resign on their own accord" simply because their contract is up at the end of the year are lauded as some sort of noble gentlemen. I mean, if they came to work the day after their contract expired, and had to be escorted from the premises, would that make a difference?
