The 107ist met with the Timbers front office to discuss a number of issues including the MLS logo, and wins compromise.
It's just a tweak to the recently unveiled MLS emlem, but it's less cartoony than the first one they came up with. Much better.

The new MLS emblem is toned down a bit from the first. Gone are the shading on the axe and the chevrons aren't broken up as much. The secondary logo is sick. The solitary axe is tight. The fourth one, the "ligature" (learned a word today) is weird but it might grow on me.

    This shit is tight!!!

WOW! A fucking front office that listens to it's most passionate fans!

The original logo is the best.

They got that upset over a line on the blade of the ax? (primary logo).

No, it was more about the overall appearance being a very cartoonish re-branding treatment of the Timbers' iconic crest. A crest that has been around a little longer that the Blazers NBA championship trophy. The new tweaked logo is a compromise that addresses some of the the concerns of many Timbers fans. There are actually a handful changes to the logo. I posted a slightly larger picture in the OP.

    1. The axe has had the shading removed.
    2. The chevrons aren't as broken up.
    3. The "Timbers" lettering has been made a little larger.
    4. The marks pointing to the word "Timbers" have been removed.

There isn't a lot of history when it comes to soccer in the US, but Portland does have some, and it is worth protecting.

bizjournal article about the crest tweakage.

"In a message on the Timbers Army message board at Talktimbers.com Friday, a representative of the team’s front office said the changes to the logo came as a result of fan feedback."

"It was released along with a slate of secondary marks the team will use to represent the MLS Timbers, including a new team ligature conceived and designed by members of the Timbers Army."

"The official also lauded the 107 Independent Supporters’ Trust, a nonprofit group that acts as administrators to Timbers Army activities. Members of the trust have met with team officials to discuss the Army’s displeasure with the crest and provide feedback on the secondary marks."

yeah, their "passionate" fans removed the two streaks of yellow in the axe.

    Well done..I guess.

I'm happy Portland has an MSL team, but the over-importance that a lot of their fans have, about the team, gets comical.

The fans are what brought an MLS team here.

I wonder if thats why Merrit Paulson had the TA do the recruiting and be a lot of the voice for MLS to PDX. Maybe MP understands that the reason that there was even a sniff of a vote in favor of bringing MLS here, is because it has been shown they can support it. Seriously I have no problem with you or anything like that, but I would hope you would do a little more research before comments like your last line are made.

I love that the fans are so passionate about the Timbers! You should have seen the weak ass "fans" at the Beaver game last night! What a joke!

and this sums up most soccer fans in general to me....it's a niche sport here but they want it to be so much more. basically just another AAA team in portland as very few of the top soccer players play in the MLS.

why because i don't really like the sport? because i think soccer fans in cities like portland and seattle have an inflated sense of worth? because i realize that europen countries are so far advanced in their soccer leagues that they continue to get the best talent?

what about giving up? i don't care about soccer or the mls except for once every 4 years like most american sports fans. good luck with the timbers, i hope they bring you guys lots of joy and hopefully i can take in a match sometime when i'm back in the nw, to see what all the hoopla is about. but at the end of the day can you really disagree that the MLS is really AAA soccer? do the best in the world play mls? in 20 years they MIGHT, but in all reality the ties and strongholds that leagues like Premier hold is much more than anything we have here.

They still act like they're a little more important then they are.
