    Yep. Because Allen's gonna die.

Would he (the hypothetical poster based on that post; I concede that maxiep might not mean the plain language of his post) be happier if Allen died tomorrow?

Quite so. That's the reason there may be ownership change. Wishing for ownership change and seeing a way it could happen is not the same, IMO, as wishing for death. It's simply a shame that that's how it likely will happen.

In some sense, it's a matter of semantics, but I think it also signifies two separate emotional states which, IMO, is significant to this rather odd discussion. ;)

An odd discussion, indeed. But you didn't answer my question:

Would he (the hypothetical poster based on that post; I concede that maxiep might not mean the plain language of his post) be happier if Allen died tomorrow?

I submit he would, since he's looking forward to the next ownership group. If he is like most people, he hopes for things that will make him happier. Therefore, he hopes Allen dies.

Ha! I think you are right. Might be ok if we knew the questions, but I don't.

He'd be happier, but not because Allen died. He'd be happier because there was a new owner. Again, I think there's a significant distinction between wanting an ownership change, with the concomitant circumstance that the previous owner died, and simply wanting the owner to die.

I suppose it's a hazy distinction, but I can reconcile maxiep (or a hypothetical poster who wrote the same thing) meaning what he wrote and also not wishing death on Allen.

Thanks for telling me what I think Ed. I think, however, I may know better what I meant than you.

    1. I said I'm going to sound like a dick because I was going to bring up something sensitive.

    2. I said Paul Allen was likely going to be dead from cancer within 24 months. All the signs are there. The focus on the short-term. The lack of news on his treatment; if it were successful, we would have heard he's in the clear. His regrowth of his hair, rather than a second round of chemo that would likely be proscribed. His weight loss. His continued sickly appearance.

    3. If my assumption that his cancer is terminal is correct, the team will likely be sold. If the team is sold, I do look forward to the next ownership group and hope they don't follow his overly-intrusive pattern.

You connected the dots the way you wanted, not how I meant them to be. You prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I would be quite sad if Paul Allen died tomorrow. His life is more important to me than the welfare of a silly sports team. If he sold the team to another ownership group with means, I would likely be happy, however.

I'm sorry Ed, but you don't know me as well as you believe you do. Your submission is rejected.

Allow me to be clear: If you told me if some random person would die, but the Blazers would win the next 50 NBA championships, I would not take that bargain. To claim I wish Paul Allen would achieve room temperature is ridiculous.

One person who rarely posts on the board posts about Paul Allen's death, and it becomes some sort of widespread sentiment? Also, I dont read maxiep's post as implying he looks forward to Paul Allen's death.

Now Ed O. is telling a poster what they meant to say when their post doesn't read as he interprets it. Fucking hilarious!

Repped! That kind of arrognace is a rare trait.
