I don't think packaging them is possible. Gomes' option has to be decided on by June 30th. BUT because he's recently been traded, he can't be packaged with any other player for at least 30 days. So our options are as follows:
    1. Decline his option and waive him (looks like what's going to happen). Leaves us on the hook for $1M this year and $1M the next.
    2. Trade him ALONE to some other team, who intends to waive him.
    3. Pick up his option and either keep him or trade him.

We can only package him if we take option 3.

Portland can make two trades at the same time, each of them unfair on their own but which balance out in tandem.

What do you mean "unfair"? If you mean one of them favors us and the other favors the other team, then yes, I suppose in theory. But why hasn't anyone used this loophole before? And it's still not as good as bundling, because using bundling you can get one very-well-paid player for two medium-paid players, whereas here each pair of players has to have roughly equivalent salary.

Just a guess on my part, but Gomes will be released and then likely re-sign with the Wolves.
This has handshake deal written all over it.

I can't imagine teams haven't used it... making distinct trades at the same time seems to be common sense when you're dealing with trade exceptions and recently acquired players.

Marty and Rudy for Ellis, Andris, and Babs?

    That's sick.

Much as it pains me, it would appear the plan is to waive Gomes and make no trades. The lack of a GM and the fact that Miller said they were going to waive Gomes seems pretty conclusive on this point.

No, no, really, I ache inside. Gomes was my shining light, my world, my everything. He would bring CP3 to me. We wants it, we needs it. Must have the CP3. They stole it from us. Sneaky little Hornetses. Wicked, tricksy, false!

Does that make John Nash the Isildur of this narrative?

Why would anyone re-sign with the wolves? Once a wolfe is freed, it runs. That and the fact they did not play him towards the end.

It's funny that in his farewell letter that Pritchard lists Gomes as an asset that Paul Allen had helped acquire. Seems maybe Pritchard had planned on keeping him.

I doubt we can trade Rudy with all the talk of him going back to Europe. Bayless has proven he's a marginal NBA player. I think any trades we make will have to involve Joel and Miller's expiring contracts.

Bayless is 21 years old and had a 15.6 PER this season. He's proven he's at LEAST a marginal NBA player. Odds are he's going to be much more than that.
