Too bad she probably looks like she's been in a horrible car wreck this morning...

^ Yeah good call. "I just got caught" is Liddell's favourite line. Not "I had my hands down and he knocked me the fuck out."

    Blame M-1 Global

Yeah, no surprise who is at fault here.

Look--Fabricio Werdum gets credit. He won. And Fedor Emelianenko was the one in the cage who lost. Nobody else. But Fedor shouldn't have been fighting Werdum in the first place.

In fact, Fedor's last several opponents have been unworthy. Since beating Mirko Cro Cop at Final Conflict 2005, Fedor's competition has been preposterous:

    Zuluzinho -- a 600lbs. sumo wrestler
Mark Coleman -- 41-year old wrestler he'd already beaten
Mark Hunt -- kickboxer with a 5-6 record in MMA
Matt Lindland -- grappler two weight classes below Fedor
Hong Man Choi -- kickboxer with 2-3 record in MMA
Tim Sylvia -- had lost 2 of last 3 fights
    Andrei Arlovski -- good fight
Brett Rogers -- newcomer with virtually no competition on his record
Fabricio Werdum -- had just lost to Arlovski and dos Santos

Basically what we see is M-1 signing up for fights that limit the risk Fedor takes.

If Fedor had been fighting top fighters the whole way through, losing is no big deal. Everyone loses eventually.

But losing to a middle of the road fighter is so damaging.

Fighting weak competition kept his unbeaten streak going but it also lead to his humiliating demise last night.

Imagine if he had been fighting Alistair Overeem? That's a huge fight. Overeem is regarded as a top heavyweight. Instead of "why did Fedor lose" we'd be talking about "is Overeem the top heavyweight in the world?"

Supposedly Fedor was consoling his management team after the fight, assuring them things would be ok. Yeah you read that last sentence in the correct order. Fedor telling his agents and managers they'd be fine. Holy shit.

    He's hideous.

Werdum is dead in a rematch.

Yeah, Fedor will still be a heavy favourite if they do a rematch.

I wonder what Dana really feels, though.

I'm waiting for the interview where he says:

Fuck Fedor. He sucks. He lost to a UFC cast-off. He has no ground game. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...

Funny thing is, same thing happened to Brock Lesnar the first time he fought Mir. Don't throw stones from a glass house, Dana.

Brock was a noob. Big difference between Brock losing to Mir and Fedor losing to Werdum/GSP losing to Serra/etc..

Dana has already said that with the loss, he is no longer interested in Fedor. Could be a bargaining tactic.

Fedor is still THE BEST heavyweight in the game. He may have lost a step, but can still beat anyone they throw at him. He got caught. He's been GNP'ing inside the Guard wrecklessly for years, and this time jiujitsu got the better of him. He wont make the same mistake twice.

The greatest champions fall and come back even harder when they rise back up. I expect a new more focused Fedor the next time we see him in the cage.
