I'm curious, Speed, and this is an honest question because I haven't seen much Raps ball, how do you account for their record? Bargnani puts up Deng numbers and the rest of the starting lineup and bench looks, from the outside at least, well below average. The Raps went 40-42, which is good enough to make it into the playoffs most years, and pushed the Bulls to the very last week of the season. If not Bosh, is it because they are built well, or coached well?
No they both take pretty much the same ratio of jumpers, but Chris is assisted on 10% less of his shots. So he's scoring at will on basically higher efficiencies across the board. You can get assisted on more shots, but you better win the other metrics . Elite players have the ability to recreate Chris's numbers let's say, and add a post game to their arsenal. As it stands that doesn't appear to be the case here. Chris Bosh basically beats Amare in almost every single metric. Chris Bosh pace adjusted/advanced: 93.1 pace 25.748 ppg 11.646 rpg 59.2 TS% 2.6 APG 2.6 Turnovers PG 25 PER 10.1+ Net production (82games) 5.1+ On/off 8.1 Overall rating (82 games) Statistical plus minus: 4.17 Win shares per game: .137 Win Shares per 48: .182 Amare, pace adjusted/advanced: 95.3 pace 24.239 ppg 9.367 rpg 61.5 TS% 1.04 APG 2.72 turnovers pg 22.6 PER 7.6 + Net production (82games) 1.7+ On/off 5.1 overall rating (82games) Statistical plus minus: 1.44 Win Shares per game: .130 Win Shares per 48: .181 PPG, RPG, APG, TPG, are adjusted to 100 possessions, at the same minutes per game. So let's recap: ~ Bosh is superior in almost every barometer. ~ Bosh is about a year and change younger. ~ Bosh has not had micro-fracture surgery and has normal eyes. ~ Bosh plays in 88% of his games, about ten % more than STAT. ~ We're projecting to next season, and beyond. ~ Bosh is not merely a "jump shooter". He creates at the same rate. ~ Bosh is more dominant offensively. ~ Win Shares penalizes Bosh heavily for playing with bad teammates, and he still wins.
No thanks, I'd rather get the exact figures. Subjective opinions have far less value, as they can be quite random, biased, etc. No human can track every single interaction, the majority of decisions should be based on objective metrics. If one struggles in situation X, it will be reflected in the figures. I'm still going to address some things speeds stated later.
None of the above? They would've made the playoffs if not for an ill thought out plan of bringing on Mark Iavaroni and making him the defensive coordinator for the first quarter of the season, which was an epic mistake. I think they just weren't bad enough to miss the playoffs if not for that. They were in no way shape or form a good team. Home court also makes a pretty big difference for most Raptors teams. The ACC is a really wonderful environment to play in when the team is doing well.
PER is an advanced (pace-adjusted per minute) measure of offensive value. It is weighted based on regression analysis using a gigantic sample size, and what correlates with what. I use various metrics not just that though. But it can be helpful. Anyway, Pau Gasol is certainly around Chris's tier. I don't see the harm in losing some individual matchups to him. However you are exaggerating how much Chris struggles against common opponents. Chris and Boozer against common foes I haven't had the chance to dive into every single game but these are my general impressions from a quick overview. vs Wallace: Pretty even. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=PzHIs http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=r3l1F vs Randolph Chris wins here. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=UiQmK http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=fOgoG vs Duncan: I'd say Boozer wins ( over Pau and Chris by the way). http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=m2yvU http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=1yks9 vs Dirk Chris looks to be the superior defender. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=gZSG9 http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=nR9ju vs. Gasol Pau gets edge over Boozer and Chris. Boozer second, Chris third. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=7Q29q http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=uhPEX vs KG: Looks like Chris may have another edge here. Especially defensively. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=MgoLh http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=C8uuV Gasol and Chris against common foes vs Duncan I think Pau wins here. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=53Yxu vs Randolph Oh look he struggles against Zach! Bench him! http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=s1wy3 vs Wallace Again, since Pau was in his prime a couple of years earlier, this seems like a decent comparison. Pretty even. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=vvcgz vs KG pretty comparable, maybe Chris wins. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=4UcuW vs Dirk Chris looks to have an edge here. http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=2c9dB Chris had 56.9 TS% 21.8 PPG 10.4 boards on Dirk. Pau had 56.3 TS% 18.8 PPG 8 RPG on Dirk. Dirk had 58.2 TS% 24.6 PG 8.3 boards 3.7 assists on Chris. Dirk had 57.3 TS% 23.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG on Pau. As you can see, to just cherry pick certain matchups is an incomplete and misleading way to represent performance. Chris struggles against certain people, so does Pau and Boozer. Also the aggregate is not easy to track.
Well I told you I wasn't paying attention to stats or even being very unbiased or specific about my opinion of him but if you want to put in the work to prove me wrong, more power to you. I would also inject that while Amare has had knee surgery, Bosh is not the player he was a few years ago, either. When he came into the league he ran like a deer and now he runs like he has leg braces. I'm not sure where any of this is leading but thanks for your response.
Oh certainly, I didn't mean to talk down to anyone by the way. I just wanted to research this for the moment. I thought it would be helpful in getting a more clear picture.
