Nate has lost his two main assistants, one to coach another team and one fired because of his agent. Now, he will have to bring in two new assistants and there will almost certainly be a breaking in period, even if they are good, and if they aren't very good there could be a big drop off in Nates already slow-to-adjust system. Two questions. 1) how will this relate to the team and winning 2) will this cause either Nate to leave or PA to fire Nate.
i'm not opposed to a new coach, I just hope that we get a good one. I think Nate has done a good job, I just don't think he is the right one for the next level and playoffs where constant and immediate adjustments need to be made.
We had better hope his assistant is a kick ass coach, because if Nate is fired, that's our interim guy for the rest of the year.
It's clear Nate is Larry Miller's final obstacle in his power-hungry coup of the Blazers, and he's been given permission Allen to go for it. By destroying Nate's staff and bringing in a vet coach to "assist", he's publicly embarrassed Nate and destroyed any control Nate had in the coaching department. The plan appears to be to force Nate to quit to avoid paying the rest of his salary. This team will absolutely suck by the time Miller gets through.
What control was that, exactly? Since Nate is on a one-year deal, it would seem like his contract was probably up sometime between June and October of this year (it would be weird to have a coaching contract expire in mid-season). So it would have been easy to get rid of him if they wanted. It is possible, indeed. barfo
Up the tempo and shake things up a bit -- the Blazers are easy to figure out. Here is Nate's playbook summed up in this youtube vid
I don't think Nate is one to just up and quit on his team. He'll have to be forced out by PA if he's not going to be our coach anymore. And with PA and Vulcans making wholesale changes recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they made the move to axe Nate midseason if things don't go well. On another note, love that B-Roy video. I just wish he'd stay healthy.
Nate is under contract through the 2011 season. Then, the one-year deals will start, if both sides still want each other. He's still on the books for his $6 million next year. I don't think I'd resign with that much scratch guaranteed.
If the Blazers aren't solidly in the playoff mix around the All-Star break, I think Nate gets the ax and one of the new assistants will take over. I still think Nate is only doing the 1-year extension gimmick because he's waiting for a high-profile gig like the Lakers to open up and bolt while his stock is high. That's fine with me.
I agree on both counts. If the team doesn't fire out of the gate, I could see Nate dumped sometime in early 2011 before the All-Start break.
I see. You are right about this - I had remembered Nate saying he wanted one-year contracts but didn't realize that he meant "after this extension I'm signing through 2011." Makes him a lot less daring than I thought. Also makes him more likely to be gone during or after next season than I thought. barfo
Isn't Nate still on his original contract he signed when coming here? I thought it had a team option which the team exercised for this upcoming season.
Yes, you are correct. I misspoke again. Nate's contract is a very very difficult thing for me apparently. barfo
Nate's only opposition in the Blazer organization was Kevin Pritchard. Pritchard's gone. Nate will be here for another 5 years.
