I was under the impression the MLE is $5.854 million, by waiving Gomes that gives us $3 million more on top of the MLE to spend?

Wow, I'm offended. I don't like the fact that it appears the Blazers employ racists. I think a phone call is in order.

    They're two different buckets.

The MLE is a set exception...the size of it only changes season to season with the cap. Portland getting under the luxury tax threshold doesn't give the team anything more to spend (unless they have their own, self-enforced budget).

I'm OK with waiving him., How could they trade for another player? There are already 14 players on the roster plus they are negotiating with Patrick Mills, and they have announced they plan to sign a free agent with the mle.

Depends on how good the player they'd get back was. I'd stop negotiating with Patty Melt (still hoping that nickname catches on) if Portland were getting Beasley.

Waiving him works if all they could have gotten back was crap.

you can carry as many players as you want during the summer (though cap holds are required if you're below 12). you just have to be at 15 when the season starts.

I know you meant maximum 15, not exactly 15. I think it is minimum 12.

Just my opinion, but I believe we will miss Martell's ability to spread the court this season. That said, i'm pumped to see Nic get 35 minutes a game!!!

If he could regularly force defenses to respect his shot, I'd agree with you. But he wasn't able to do that. Once in a rare while he'd be hot and fill it up. Most nights he floated through games with little discernible effect.
