Wes Matthews is probably worth around 3-4M a year anyways. Utah can only offer their MLE do to some random ass Loophole in the CBA, so Portland can't offer anything to outbid them I believe. Wes Matthews is one hell of a player effort wise, and is a good Sloan guy.

We are just trying help you guys lock up your good young players. You got a steal with Milsap (6-7 million a year) You think you would all be gratefull.

Actually the Millsap deal was a steal because now he's only making 6M for the next 3 years but Utah would get their guys a lot cheaper if it wasn't for Portland lol. Chance are that if Portland tries to bid up Matthews, Utah will let him walk.

If we give him an offer, our money is tied up for a week while UTA decides whether or not they will match.

BTW - It was a sarcastic "Fuck the Blazers" more do them being division rivals that make Utah pay a little more instead of it being a bad one. Especially the bad karma comment referring to the answer to why their injuries were so bad last year :P

I don't want to hear anything from the Jazz, after we gifted them Deron Williams for Martell Webster, Jarrett Jack and Joel Freeland.

Great to hear more perimeter defenders and a pg is what we need to add to this team.

So it was a good offer. :) If Portland had gotten him, it would have been a steal (I agree on that) and even not getting him, they caused Utah to pay more than they would have otherwise.

Good for him. He is going to be making lottery type money in his second year after going undrafted.

Wesley Matthews is a great story. He went from undrafted to starting shooting guard on a team that reached the second round of the playoffs.

    Undrafted

    strong defense

    high basketball IQ

    Reliable shot

His story from undrafted to a very good role player sounds an awful lot like:

Assuming Rudy is leaving, he would be a good addition.

The news here to me is that if we're really targeting Matthews after drafting two guards, then we have a deal lined up and ready to execute.

I'd rather have Rudy than Matthews... and I'd rather get another big man than acquire Matthews.

Hopefully this DOES mean there's a trade lined up, because otherwise getting Matthews makes no sense.

Why? Matthews is just as good of a three point shooter and adds great defense. He is also more of an athlete and probably has a lot more potential than Rudy.

He only took 2 3's per game too though. It's just one season, but maybe it will be the norm percentage for him. In college he shot 44%, 29%, 31% and 37%, so it's hard to gauge where exactly he falls...but the plus side is if his shot isn't falling, he is still useful. Useful enough to where they were fine trading Ronnie Brewer away and putting him into the starting line-up.

How can we think about signing anyone without a GM in place?

I think I'd rather have Ronnie Brewer (now a UFA). Pros: bigger, more proven, only 1 year older, higher production (even last year, his worst season). Cons: got injured last year, worse than Miller at shooting 3s.
