I'd love to see Argentina do it, but they won't.

Biggest match of the WC so far, IMHO. Two legitimate contenders (though Germany would be the dark horse type) getting after it. Should be a fantastic game.

The question going into this game, IMHO, is whether or not Argentina are organized (coached) well enough to deal with Germany's technical precision.

But yeah, Deutschland to win for sure by 2 goal margin, I'll say 3-1, but it could be 4-2. GO SCHLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Agentina defense system is a bit weak to take them all the way to the top. I'm going with Germany.

What do I worry about the most for Argentina? Tactics. This one could get ugly.

Argentina could play like Italy and win ugly. :(

The Germans made it clear yesterday that the squad is fully prepared for an ugly match. I believe it was Bastian Schweinsteiger that said that they would let the referees take care of any problems and not get involved. If Argentina play the way Germany is expecting, then they may finish down a player or two with Germany up by three or more.

During the whole year, only Jose Mourinho was able to stop messi from being a major threat, so it's guaranteed he's going to have a big game. No one can stop him in this Germany team. I'm on Argentina's side and believe they can win it, I'm also pretty sure it will happen, even though Germany has been pretty fantastic during this World Cup. Argentina will control the ball, but I'm scared of their defense in transition and Germany has been pretty much perfect on counter-attacks, so this will be the key for both teams - whether Argentinas defense will prevail or if Germanys counter attacks will execute as good as they have to

If Messi comes alive in this game, then there's no team that can stop him, but he's usually shit for his National team, so it's a germany win. I expect the argies to dive alot.

I don't know, I think Messi has been alive and playing great all World Cup, despite the zero goals tallied.

If someone had told me three weeks ago that we'd be facing Argentina in the quarters, I would have been thrilled with that. I really wondered about Maradona, and his leadership and coaching abilities, and thought the team might go into a mini-revolt. Now, whether it's because of Diego or despite Diego (more likely imo), Argentina has so far been the best team in the tournament, and I think Messi has been the best player in the tournament, or certainly in the top three.

Messi does worry me in this game, Mertesacker and Friedrich, and probably Khedira and Schweinsteiger will all have to be on their toes for all 90 minutes. I do like Germany's offensive chances as well, and this could easily be a 2-2 game at the end of 90. After that, I think Germany wins on youth and endurance (always one of the best conditioned teams in any WC or EC) and it won't make it to PK's. Germany wins 3-2.

I'm surprised everyone seems to be leaning towards Germany given how well the South Americans have played so far.

I hope Germany can keep up their form but I fear they will be the ones defending with Argentina attacking.

Germany's best defense is to control the ball in the midfield and to threaten the counter attack at all times. Should make Argentina weary of diving too deep.

The Argie attacking talent does look scary on paper, but to be fair, they've not been so explosive as they should, considering they have Messi and Aguero. If those two were clicking, argentina would be unstopable on attack. Defensive wise they are not too solid. Should be a cracking match, unless the refs mess this up again, let us hope not.

I would say Messi has been as good as possible in the tournament. It seems like every time he gets the ball, he's got four guys immediately closing down on him, limiting his options. Everyone else has been given tons of space because of this.

I predict a lot of goals in this one, regardless of the strong defensive records of both teams thus far in the tournament. I'll go with Argentina winning here.
