Are you seriously using PER for Millis? He played like 39 minutes the whole season. There's not enough data to use PER in a comparison at all.
I'm not an advocate for Farmar at all, I'm just trying to provide a rationale for why the team is interested in him (assuming there even is a rationale).
I was replying to the poster who said the Mills wasn't productive. Well, when he played, he was as productive as Farmar.
And like I said, you can't just use PER to deem productiveness for a guy that averaged less than four minutes a game in 10 total appearances. The sample size is too small.
I said he wasn't particularly useful, his 11.9 PER backs that up, similary I said I'd only trust Farmar slightly over Mills if only because he's got four years in the league ... I think he sucks too.
The rational is that the last two PGs we got that had an over 15 PER when getting more than 20MPG were Andre Miller and Damon Stoudamire in 2004/2005 - and in the only year Farmar got to play 20MPG - he had a 15.4 PER. So, as a 3rd backup PG on the roster (assuming we go with Miller/JB and rooks) - he is going to be more than fine - if they do not pay him stupid money, and given that he is only 23 years old, there is still a chance he would improve if given a more traditional for PGs system to play in (See what happened to Sessions in the triangle). Farmar is not great, far from it, but as cheap insurance - he is more than fine.
Ah, we agree. I'd trust Farmar over Mills as well, but I'd like to see him closer to the vet minimum than the full MLE. I'm still trying to come down off of a "we're going to get Chris Paul???" high from last week. Talking about Farmar and Matthews is the equivalent of scraping for resin compared to having the Humboldt kind last week.
At the same time, according to rumors, is there a free agent guard in the NBA that the Blazers aren't interested in?
On the plus side ever since he changed the H in his last name to F, he's really improved his game. He lacks the winning attitude he once had however.
