Steinmetz does not see a Biedrins for Martin trade going down (plus other side notes). http://www.csnbayarea.com/07/01/10/...ering/landing.html?blockID=264585&feedID=2539

--There was a report out of Denver that the Nuggets are trying to “pry” Andris Biedrins from the Warriors in a deal that would include Kenyon Martin.

That’s not going to happen for a number of reasons. First, it is unlikely that the Warriors will trade Biedrins unless they get a center back. Plain and simple, it would be risky to head into the season with Ronny Turiaf, who was banged up a lot of last year, and little-used Dan Gadzuric as the top two centers.

Second, Martin just had knee surgery and there are doubts that he’ll be ready by the start of the season. In addition, Martin makes $16.5 million in 2010-11, which means the Warriors would have to throw in another player.

Under different circumstances, the Warriors might entertain the thought of taking on Martin’s expiring contract. But the problem is that insurance doesn’t pay that salary should he miss the season.

In other words, the Warriors would be trading their starting center for a player who is hurt. Not to mention, Martin would become the fourth power forward under contract.

Biedrins needs to make his FTs and that was the reason his season went down the tubes. You cannot be on the floor if you are shooting 10% from the line. You'll never get any shot. Even Ben Wallace was a 50% FT shooter. He's got to learn to make a good stroke and forget about whether it goes in or not (its the same as putting in golf, you focus on the technique and let the result happen.) He can do it, he shot 60% before.

Interesting. I probably value Steinmetz's opinion over all others in the media. I've always liked that guy's insights. And yeah, they way he paints it, it's a bad move for GS. Even though it's an expiring contract, it's still a year away, and that's a full year of basketball with Dan Gadz as your back-up C and K-Mart taking minutes away from Randolph/Wright/Udoh (If KMart is healthy). Also, I've never been a fan of KMart's attitude, and since he wouldn't expire for a year, that's a full year of potential damage to team chemistry, IMO. We need to develop the young PFs we have, not deal with an injured prima donna headcase.

So uh, yeah, no thanks on that one.
