Yep. Brock's take-downs are not great, though. I don't think it will come to that.

Yeah but he has that shear brute force to get Carwin down and keep him down. Should be interesting to see his conditioning after the long hiatus.

Man, I thought Lesnar was done in the first round. Dude has a head of granite to take those hits like he did.

In the second round he just used superior wrestling to get the choke. Which was another surprise--I was expecting him at some point to start raining down fists, but he never really did.

When he got on the mat with Carwin it was like the first round never even happened.

The main event was thrilling. Carwin was so close to finishing the fight in the first round. You could tell that Lesnar is both inexperienced in the stand-up as well as unaccustomed to being hit. The first solid shot Shane landed (an uppercut IIRC) sent Brock reeling with his hands up and he retreated for the rest of the round. He couldn't help but throw everything he had into it and he just wore himself down to nothing. Every time it seemed like the referee Rosenthal was going to step in and stop it either Carwin would slow down or Brock would alter the position, kick him off, or punch back. I think there are a lot of refs who would've stopped it but kudos to Rosenthal for letting it go, knowing Lesnar was surviving. Rosenthal is the best in the business right now IMHO. I don't know why Dana hypes up Herb Dean so much when Dean has made many high profile mistakes in the past. Brock by arm triangle? Are you kidding?

Chris Leben looked great. I could tell he was going to win the fight in the first minute or so. I think Akiyama might be better suited to the welterweight division because his conditioning and power at 185 are both suspect. Leben isn't a world beater but he puts on a great show every time. I think what he suggested (TUF 13 featuring himself and Wanderlei as coaches) is a fantastic idea.

Most of the other fights were one-sided. Sotiropoulos looked great. He is a very well rounded fighter. I still don't know how good he really is. His competition will only improve from here. Bonnar was loose and wild but got the better of Soszynski in the end. Great fight. Bonnar is another guy who always gives it his all. Schuab beat a suspect opponent, dunno if it proves anything. Petruzelli looked like he wasn't in fighting shape and succumbed to a mediocre performance from Ricardo Romero. Gerald Harris neutralized David Branch's BJJ and boxing and managed a thunderous knockout slam that will be on his highlight reel forever. Didn't see the Roberts/Madsen fights.

And I almost forgot but Lytle/Brown was wild too. So many good fights on this card.

Pretty good PPV. Not the most exciting main event I've ever seen, but definitely one of the most surprising ones. I cannot believe Brock won, I thought it was pretty much over after Carwin got on top and started throwing haymakers. Who in this world would have ever predicted Brock winning with an Arm Triangle? Not me, but I'm definitely happy Brock won.

    :)

    Leben/Akiyama was fucking crazy.
