I like Shane Battier more. The former Blue Devil has a passion for the game, and is a great team leader and influence. He is also no slouch on the defensive end. Bobby Simmons has talent, but give me Shane Battier.

I'll take Battier as well. He's the much better all around player. May not be the most athletic or exciting, but he has a decent jumper, he's a good defender, and plays with a lot of heart.

Battier's defensive skills are effective in tight situations during games, battier easily. Doesn't seem like alot of controversy this thread seems like everyone is just going Battier.

Yeah I will also have to agree with Battier. He is a very good defender and never takes a rest. He can knock down the open 3 and he really can score when given the ball. But the team has Pau Gasol, Mike Miller, Eddie Jones, Chucky Atkins, Bobby Jackson, and Damon Stoudamire when healthy. He doesn't really need to do much scoring. He gets the points that come to him. He never rushes things.

Simmons can score and his 3-pt abilities are about equal to Battier. But it's the defensive end that gets Battier the nod, and also why Battier was invited to try out for the USA team.

gotta go with my boy shane. he's the man. he does everything well especially on the defensive end (3 time defensive player of the year at duke). he's a very smart player and always makes the right decisions, averages 1 TO per game. that's amazing because he plays 35 minutes a night. he's also one of the nicest guys in the league. shane :worthy:

I'd take Shane as well. He is in my mind, the best role player in the NBA. Great shooter, shoots a high percentage, nice jumper, good defender, steals, blocks, not selfish and a good rebounder. What cant the guy do? IMO hes a lock for the US Olympic team if he stays healthy.

Definatly Shane Battier, he's much better defensivly whereas Bobby Simmons other than his brute strength (6'6" 240 pounds) does nothing. Battier just knows how to play the game and is a great representative for basketball. Bobby Simmons is nothing but a streak shooter who we overpayed for. Shane Battier is one of the more underappreciated players in the game, a player that if he averaged a few more PPG would definatly get more attention.

I think Battier is a little better because of experience. He rebounds a lot more, shoots 3's, just like Simmons, and that's pretty much it. Simmons focuses on scoring just a little too much.
