The cap being higher than expected was the deathblow to any hope of getting Chris Paul. The Hornets are now very safely below luxury tax-paying land. And Shinn wants to sell the team. Gee, what Hornets team is worth more, a team with Chris Paul or without? Who was it just calculated that the Cavs lost $100M in value when they lost LeBron James?
Makes sense. But one of Paul and Collison should go if the Hornets are rational, so if it isn't Paul it is Collison. Still an interesting target. barfo
Here's another reason to give up: Chris Paul today dumped Octagon and signed up with LeBron James' agency. Hmmm. Now, if HE joins the Heat in a couple of years...
The person reportedly buying the Hornets is a Billionaire. I don't think $100M + No CP3 is going to entice him.
Hey, the Jazz kept Boozer and Millsap until Boozer left. Why do they have to trade either? Collison is good insurance if, like last year, Paul misses a bunch of games. If Shinn can't get a buyer, I imagine Collison would become available so long as you took Okafor too.
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5601968 eh? would they go for that? i know i wouldnt mind.... dre starts for another year collison gets back up minutes and then we take a contract off their hands. if we did a trade for him we shouldnt be giving up batum thats for damn sure
Welcome to the world of fans of the Clippers, Wolves, Grizzlies, Raptors, Nets, Knicks, Sixers, Bobcats, et. al.
They don't have to. However, they'd be smart to, since having too much talent piled up at one position isn't ideal. Suppose Batum was a SG. Wouldn't it be tempting to trade him (or Roy) for a SF? And is Paul (Boozer) leaving soon? If so, great, we can wait for that and get him then. barfo
Teams that win are valuable. It's not the personalities as much as their record. Chris Paul could be traded and return pieces that are much more valuable to the Hornets on the court as well as lowering their salary cap.
Collison just isn't that good! Remember when Tyus Edney had a surprisingly good rookie season with the Kings? That's Darren Collison!
There are no such players available! $100M for Joe Johnson is crazy overpaying. $100M for LeBron James (and to a lesser extent, Chris Paul) is an unbelievable bargain. The Hornets lucked into Chris Paul. He's the best player they could ever hope for.
He could return three or four excellent players, draft picks and $10MM in cap space. His production could be largely filled by Collison.
Me likey. Shin? Who knows sure would solve a lot of our problems all at once. I almost like it better then getting CP3. Almost. You have a perfect starting five. I'd almost trade AMEC rather then JPEC. Not sure which NOH would prefer probably Joel. You could also throw in Dante who has some value around the league.
