I just read Matthews and his agent are in Portland talking to the Blazers tonight. I think he is the best player the Blazers have been rumored to like.

"Jazz restricted free agent Wesley Matthews and his agent both are in Portland tonight to meet face-to-face with the Trail Blazers. Matthews' camp has been in frequent touch with the Blazers, who last summer signed Jazz power forward Paul Millsap to a frontloaded four-year, $32 million offer sheet that Utah ultimately matched. Deseret News" from Hoopshype

That would be nice, I really dig Mathews as a player.

I just hope his rookie year wasn't just a fluke. If it isn't, he could be a nice contributor to a strong Blazer squad. Who knows, maybe he can convince Deron to come with him... ;)

I demand a Wes Matthews ESPN special. "The Other Decision."

He's got to do what's right for Wes Matthews.

The Blazers are only doing this so they can make excuses they won't do anything until the Jazz match.

I demand a Wes Matthews ESPN special.

Where he will take 1 hour to announce his decision as to sign the Blazers offer sheet or not?

Then we can follow it up with a 1 hour special where Utah announces their intent to match.

Followed by an hour long made for TV special on Joseph Smith, exclusively on ESPN as narrated by Lebron James and sponsored by Melo's people of Utah.

I like Mathews too. I assume he is in town to drive the price up with the Jazz. He would start In Utah for about the same money. Unless we offer the full MLE I can't see him leaving. And thats too much for him. It's worth a shot though.

YEAHHH!!! Take that Miami. You hear me? That's right Wes-mother-fucking-Matthews biatches!! Yeahhhhh!

I kind of do too. But we would have to over pay him. BWTF, if Travis can get 7 million a year, Wes can get 5 million a year.

At least it makes the Jazz use there MLE on one of their own players

I doubt that. Matthews is only going to be a second year player and there's a bit of risk with guys who haven't been in the league for a little while. My guess is that he's probably going to get something like 4 million per year -- Steve Blake money.

Well I think he only deserves 4 million. But Utah would match that for sure.

What if Blazers sign Wes. Then trade Ruudy to the NYK for R. Turiaf.

Wes and Ronny bring tough defense and rebounding. Not sure if RT will ever be healthy.

Meh. I'd rather add him than no one, but...

Meh.

Ed O.

Wes Matthews and Rudy aren't really comparable players. Matthews is more of a short SF. He was a SF in college and he doesn't really have SG skills. I see him as a hustling defender. That ain't Rudy. Rudy on the other hand is a much better passer and runs around off screens (or at least, if he's used right).

I see Matthews as basically a Webster replacement. It would be odd if he cost more.

I would rather have Pendergraf and Rudy than Turiaf. Save Rudy for another trade.

^ The biggest highlight in that long video was the D on Kobe. An asset like that coming off the bench adds a lot to this team. Because right now I see that area as a big need on this team. Way more than a banger at the back up PF.

12.3 PER, got abused by Kobe Bryant in the playoffs, 38% 3pt, gets to the line 3 times per 36/minutes.

Basically, he's a shorter version of Martell Webster.

Whoopity-Doo!

Ideally Portland can convince him to came here and be a back up rather than a starter in Utah. Then when Utah matches our offer to him, we can work a sign and trade with Rudy.

You guys do realize that Utah will match our offer, right?

I'm assuming that they will. They almost have to do it. They can't be Prtich-slapped out of three players, can they (Boozer/Brewer after the Millsap signing last summer)?

I don't see a problem with that considering we don't have Webster anymore. It's not like he is a duplication of anyone on the roster. I agree Utah will match, but I still think we need one wing player that can back up Roy and/or Batum on the defensive end. Udoka would be a nice cheap alternative if available. Is he a free agent?

If he is a shorter version of Martell and we can get him for 1/2 what Martell was paid - that's a coup!
