Childress and Matthews getting the same money shows just how much we overpaid. I pray the Jazz match.

Not sure in my mind that this makes Phoenix any better than they were. They've just replicated what they have numerous of on the roster already. Long lanky players with the ability to knock down the outside jumper but not mobile enough to create their own shot.

Amare opened the floor up a lot for all those outside guys, I'm not convinced that stationing 4 players outside the 3pt line will make them an effective offense. They really need a post player in the worst way!

(....and no, Hackim Warrick, Robin Lopez and Channing Frye don't constitute an effective offensive post player)

It chafes me a little bit because now I'm asking why the hell the Blazers didn't go after him with a massive front loaded contract, because there was no way ATL was going to match after giving Johnson the kind of money they gave him ... plus I think JC is actually worth the full MLE based on past performance and the fact that he's a young veteran.

No doubt. J-Chil was one of the main reasons the Hawks took the Celtics to 7 games in 2008.

Well I have to disagree with most of you. Childress is "meh" for me. Similar to Luol Deng. Very efficient. But he doesn't shoot many outside 3's, so his shooting percentage there really doesn't show how he effects the game. When your SF isn't a threat from the outside, it makes life for your team very hard in the paint and for players who get double teamed regularly. His highest season he took 77 3's. That isn't even one per game. Why would a defender stay home on you if you never shoot the 3?

He lofts one of the strangest 2-handed set shots of anyone I've ever seen at any level.

The Blazers even admit that they overpaid. Matthews better become some sort of super sub, because at 9x the cost of Rudy this next season, I expect a 17-ish PER, 42% 3pt shooting, and lockdown defense.

Brian, weren't you the one who pointed out how PHX blew a trade exception in the Amare deal, and then PHX must have seen it on TV and structured the deal accordingly?

Nah, we don't miss Penn at all. We're getting Wesley Matthews for the full MLE. Titles, here we come!

Yeah, it's too bad we didn't have a GM to create a TPE out of thin air, that would have been awesome.

I did bring up Penn detailing the trade exception....I don't quite know where you're going with this. All I responded to was whoever asked if Penn's TPE for Jones was the start of the "trade exception movement", and I said that Rashard's S&T (set up by Cho, amazingly enough, and Wally Walker) was the first I remember. But I'm a bit northwest-biased in how quickly I got my news back then.

Apologies in advance if I missed something.

It's interesting....Childress was "low-balled" by Atlanta a few years ago, yet has now accepted virtually the same offer from the Suns.

    Go figure.

I don't think they ever offered him 5 years with the full MLE. I could be wrong though.

Question: I was under the impression that Atlanta had no longer held the rights to Childress. That said, how did a sign & trade come about??
