So I've been going nuts over the past week with displeasure over the fact that Bulls seem to be signing fairly mediocre players instead of leveraging their cap space into something that might help us down the road. (In a nutshell, I think they should be scouring the league to, in order, 1) try to get a star, 2) get a really top flight defensive team, 3) get prospects. Well, this morning I saw this from the Memphis Commercial Appeal: In other words, Heisley decided he didn't want to sign the guy to 120% of the rookie scale. Which, yes, is negotiable under the salary cap rules, but in practice everyone (I think except for one or two players in the entire history of the rookie scale!), signs for 120% of the rookie scale. So let's look at Henry. Athletic. Good defender. Good shooter. He's a guy that would be very nice to have. And Arn Tellem is his agent? Make the call! Offer them a pick. Offer them James Johnson. In other words, make a deal.
Memphis saw what Minnesota was doing and had to pull some crazy shit to prove they are still the worst franchise in pro sports.
It sure seems that way. Man, I'd absolutely love to get the Bulls' beefy, mud-caked hooves on Henry. He seems like the ideal sort of guy to run the floor with DRose
Just because of a contract dispute, I dont think the Grizzlies trade him right now. Now maybe if it becomes a NFL style hold out when the season is around the corner....then yea, maybe
Well, I figure maybe it's a sign that Heisley, who's sort of notorious for being a bad and meddling owner, just wants to move him. The Griz just locked up Rudy Gay at the 3, they just signed Tony Allen at the backup 2 spot, and they've got OJ Mayo starting. So that sounds like the sort of circumstance where they might move a guy if they get a future asset to me
I don't know about a rookie. I think getting Wellington from MN sounded like a much more plausible scenario. Henry didn't do that much in college and I doubt he's available.
