HT to OSU BlazersFan, I see that Poopsworld says: If he were/is on the market, could you make Paul/Rose work? I say yes. Paul’s an excellent shooter, as well as a guy who can set up a dribble-drive scorer like Rose. When in doubt, get supreme talent and try to make it work.
This an the Xavier Henry deals are no brainers. But I'm not sure the franchise is ready to think big and spend the tax. I'm also not sure we have the flexibility anymore to make a move, after the recent signings.
I believe so. He teased about him and Melo joinin Amare to make their own big 3 at Melo and LaLas wedding
I think Reinsdorf isn't going to pay the tax unless nearly assured of a big time team. But you add Paul without giving much up and you're pretty much there. Even if you're content with being small potatos, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I mean, c'mon, insert your cliche here. Flexibility wise, we need to hope Orlando matches Reddick. If that happens, we'd be back to about $15M in cap space, and I think we could probably swing something along the lines of Paul/Okafor for Deng/Taj/1st rounders and save the Hornets a lot of dough. Who knows. The way I look at it, you have to make the pitch. Everything up to that point is idle talk.
Even if Orlando doesn't match we could still ship JJ, right? There's no movement hold because he was signed outright, not as part of a sign and trade. The only player we can't trade right now is Boozer. Korver signed outright too, unless I'm mistaken. That doesn't change the fact that Paul would have to want to come here and play alongside Rose, and you're probably right about NO preferring salary relief rather than talent.
I think any players signed in the summer can't be traded until December 15 after they sign their deal. I do think it would require a sales job to convince Paul (and Rose) that this is the right way to go. It's certainly not an orthodox way of doing things. But still, if Paul (who's noted as a big time competitor) really wanted to win, where else is he gonna go? Unless the Knicks actually do orchestrate Melo there, the Bulls look light years ahead of them. One place that would actually make sense would be the Magic. Vince has an expiring deal, but that doesn't help the Hornets very much.
Thanks for the correction. Yeah, I can't see the Hornets moving him. The Poopsworld article said that the GM was fired because he was not able to assure Paul (perhaps true) but then makes the leap to Paul being traded. He's their marketing centerpiece, it's bigger than wins and losses. I think this is probably more pie in the sky than the Iguodala, etc.
I've been pimping a trade of Deng to NOH for Paul and Okafor since the "Paul is available" rumors started. Paul makes $16M, and we'd need that kind of cap space to absorb his contract. Deng and Okafor pretty much match up salaries-wise. They'd be sending out $26M and we'd be sending out $11.4M. So we'd need slightly less than $15M in cap space to make the deal happen. Not sure how the 125% thing works, but if we qualify for that by going over in this same transaction, we'd still need to come up with $8M to balance the deal out. The questions are, does the 125% thing work, and if we're $8M under before the trade, does that balance the deal? The alternative is to take on Peja or Posey. Posey makes $6.5M, Deng $11.4M. NOH would be sending out $22M, we'd be sending out $11.4M. Peja makes $14M, which is tough to swallow, though it'd be an expiring contract. And if he has any gas left in the tank, he might be pretty outstanding from the outside for us.
Paul is going to end up in OKC because they have the best mix of young talent on cheap deals and cap space to take bad contracts. It'll be something like Green, Harden, Westbrook and Collison and cash and picks for Okafor and Paul. Bulls can't give up Deng and NO doesn't want a guy with a long contract.
Bulls could get in a 3 way though. I also think a lot of teams are going to be hesitant to give up much for a guy who has already said he's going to NY to play with Melo and Amare.
Those guys make $54,844,570 over their contracts, and they will need to be extended or lost Deng makes $51,418,000
Yeah, but they are 4 guys who the Hornets can choose from to build around and Deng is one guy who they would sort of be stuck with. Plus Deng needs somebody else to create for him. Harden or Westbrook and Green give NO at least two guys to build with next to Collison. At the very least they can move those guys for picks. You really don't get how this works. Deng is valuable to the bulls because he can guard the great 3's of the league and hit an open jumper. NO isn't looking for that kind of player if they are moving Paul.
Sorry, you guys held onto your precious assets too long and you don't have the cap space or pieces to get him anymore. So Paul is the guy you finally give up Rudy for?
