All sounds about right. We in Portland were failing to see the forrest for the trees. Once you connect the dots and follow LeGarie's other clients' actions, most of these speculative rumors seem to sort of come full circle. As far as speculation goes, I'd bet this is as close to the real truth as we're going to get.

    Well, who knows what's what.

However, during the early days after the Penn firing, when all the juicy "drive by" LeGarie quotes were hitting, I posted that LeGarie has a long history of playing games and swinging for the fences and pissing people off and the only real chance that KP had to start the repair process and MAYBE save his job was to immediately fire LeGarie and disassociate himself from his actions and statements.

    KP did not do it.

Thus, I conclude KP did not really want to stay in Portland. Sure, he SAID all the right things. His actions spoke the loudest.

I haven't read the article yet, but there was a good article a week ago that said that LaGarie got Kiki fired in Denver pulling the same stunt (talking to management trying to get him a raise without telling him) and now, Rod Thorn is having to answer what LaGarie said to his bosses without telling Thorn. LaGarie keeps doing this and getting his clients into trouble.

Clearly Legarie's nefarious tentacles stretch all the way to the internets.

I agree, this is why I've been in the pro-PA camp around this whole thing. I got enough pieces of the pie to put together this picture. Not as eloquently or completely as TDarkstar at BE did. This just cemented it to me. Fuck LeGarie, we need to move on. Quick question what players might we be interested in that he represents? I have some weird, hopefully false, memory that he represents Chris Paul?

Not really. Again this paints KP as a willing pawn, not an evil mastermind. It was LeGarie who is the real piece of shit. The email part I had trouble with, the rest I did not.

    Just a couple of points.

First, the Goryonion (via Quick) claims to have seen the written offer from the TWolves to Penn. Either BE is off-base, Quick is a liar, or Penn is also a master forger.

Second, the Bruce Ratner interview (published on TrueHoops IIRC) paints a very different picture of the Nets situation. A picture that casts Thorn as the villian, not Kiki or his agent. Why would Ratner cover for LeGarie?

Finally, the part about the Miles E-Mail seems waaay out there. I find it easier to believe that Miller and KP were both concerned about the letter, but that the marching orders came from higher up.

My response to the whole thing? Who cares... It's basketball. I just want all the drama to end. This is turning into a Watergate for the Blazers, and I just want it to go away. If the team would have simply come forward and explained why KP was fired, and I mean really laid it all out there, I think the fans would have understood and let it go. Instead now we are forced to hypothesize and conjecture about what may have happened or who might have been at fault. The whole thing is ridiculous. Just let it die. Find a replacement and move on. I really wonder if KP will get another job though.

The only thing I'm left wondering after all this is whether Pritchard was half the man we thought he was... How much of the KP legacy was created by LeGarie?

KP's moves and general reputation from people speaks for itself.

    Just a fantastic GM.

Well Quick is definitely a liar or at least an asshole that's really beyond doubt. The rest of what you wrote is interesting and blows quite a few holes in the BE piece. Thanks for the post. I absolutely agree about the email that seemed pretty hard to swallow although it would make for a great novel or maybe after school special :D

I think KP was the best GM we've had in ages. You have to go WAYYYY back to find a better one. At least 20 years or so.

LeGarie definitely sounds like a douchebag from all reports.

Taking the Blazers from the gutter and turning them into back to back 50+ game winners.

I would imagine a handful of moves were made to make this happen.

And what if Steve Patterson isn't lying and he was the one who traded for Roy and Aldridge?
