Makes you wonder why we fired KP doesn't it? It definitely wasn't for basketball reasons **hint, hint**.
By the way as to surviving the rigors of Blazers basketball, I think you can credit the coaching staff and players themselves more then you can front office folks.
They've only had to hand out 1 major/max/big contract so far to the future best player in the league am I not correct? That was about as difficult a call as the #2 pick 3 years ago. Look, I hated the Pritchard move. They told me they wanted experience to get the team over the hump. FINE!!!!! FINE! I'll listen So who's the front runner? The new Kevin Pritchard only this time with no experience. SURPRISE!!!!!
I hear what you saying but other then West (and I suppose Thorn now?) who is there that is GOOD? Oh and West ain't coming here. Pfund and Ferry are both kind of meh. Sure Cho could end up being a disaster it's possible, but I also think he has a lot more chance to be WOW then Pfund or Ferry. Seriously, who out there who would actually come to Portland is the no-brainer pick that would satisfy you?
Seriously though, who is the slam dunk GM to shoot for? I'm waiting for the Pearls of Wisdom so I can get back to my handlers/gaming group up in Seattle.
To answer without being flipant I'll say this. Pritchard was fired FOR sure for one of these reasons. (we think ) -his agent -cant make a big trade -cant sign a big free agent -arrogant (or something) So we are going to hire a guy who's only two advantages over Pritchard are he has a nice agent and is not arrogant. Best owner in the game. Do you not think our next hire should at least check all 4? Retread or not? At least we'd know he has in the past signed a guy or two and/or has made a major/big trade. WHY WHY WHY the FUCK... at this point in the building of this team do you bring in a rookie? It makes absolutely no sense ESP considering who we just let go.
There isn't one. If there were a slam dunk hire he'd already have a job. I'm not looking for a slam dunk but at the very least a lay in. I'm 100% against a 3 pointer as the clock expires which is exactly what Cho is. Nobody knows how he'll do.
It's not about who they've signed, but rather using their cap space to facilitate trades to acquire draft picks. Kurt Thomas was a great move for them. It's just been really smart planning.
We're still looking at hiring someone with LESS experience than the guy we just fired at perhaps the most important point in the franchises history. Someone who's never made a major trade or signed a major free agent. Are you seriously going with "Well you never know!" as a reason to hire a fucking general manager? Great stuff people.
Fantastic post. Here you go OddEnormous if you are truly interested in fact based reasoning to sway your opinion (har har) then THIS is the post. Repped you btw Noknobs. Nice work.
