He's a great candidate; just read this thread (ignoring the race stuff and the general whining from some of you) and you will see evidence of that. Experience matters less when there's an experienced team around him, as there would be in this case.

The "you never know!" is an affirmative defense to the "he's inexperienced" charge. Experience is much less important than capabilities (which can be influenced by experience level, but is not SOLELY reflected by that).

I think most folks are more nervous about this hire then most GM hires is that there feels like there is little time to waste.

We don't really want them to bring in someone who will do a poor job for the next 2 or 3 years because that would be a significant portion of the window Portland has right now.

Like it or not, Brandon's career isn't going to a long one due to knee issues.
We don't have any idea whether or not Oden will even have a career to cut short.

I would hate to see that wasted by a guy just learning the ropes.

I guess I am hoping they bring in a dude that pulls off another home run deal, like KP did when he got both Brandon and LA in the draft.
It would be nice if they guy they brought in had actually done a deal like that in the past.
That is one very short list, though.

To be fair, Cho has vastly more experience than did KP when he was hired as our GM.

I didn't like the KP firing either, but I'd rather have Cho than Kiki, Pfund, Ferry and the other former GM they're interviewing next (blech).

:( man I don't know shit about basketball and/or have the memory of a sieve.

By the way as to what your post is worth, I'd say its billable at about $85 an hour with the sports (fan) psychologist I've been seeing ever since I started following Oden's basketball career. Not close enough to you know, like assemble facts or reasoned argument about the sport whatsoever. Just close enough to do irreparable emotional damage.

El Presidente is Asian himself, isn't he? I found his self-deprecating humor quite funny. Meanwhile, you're throwing out "wetback" blasts for some reason. :)

You've just told me exactly what I don't want to hear. We don't need more draft picks. We need to finish this team off for a 4 to 5 year run.

I don't care.* He has less experienced than KP now.

This team should not be going backwards experience wise.

    *And I don't agree.

    Ah, somebody gets it.

Arguing KP vs Cho (or any other candidate) is just mental masturbation. At this point, the relevant question is how Cho stacks up against the other candidates. Do you want proven medicocrity, or do you want to take a chance on somebody who might actually be good?

Uh, do you have anything to back that up? Came off as a racist rant to me. Hence my reply. He also went off on women and so forth and so on.

He is, yes. People overreacting to a perceived racist comment by throwing out racist comments that were NOT made ... not very wise. :)

Well epic fail on my part. I will delete the offending posts. He went off about black people in the OT forum that's what lead me astray. Again my EXTREME bad.

The pictures he's posted of himself, and him saying that he's Asian in the past.

On a consistent note, are you a "wetback", fams? That's a dirtly little slur you used there.

He is. We have pictures from events. I follow him on Twitter. Etc.

And he made a pretty legit point when he brought up the question about what if Cho were a woman... I would like to think that it wouldn't influence MY opinion of the candidate, but I think that it might, in all honesty.

I'm not sure that gender differences reservations transfer over to race differences (as a matter of fact, I don't think that they do) but it's a question worth asking and not merely a slam on women.

Not that anyone cares but I couldn't care less if our new hire was a bi sexual tranny of multiple origins. I can't for the life of me understand what the outside package (or lack there of ;)) has to do with anything.

    Insane.

Disagree with you here, but I made a big mistake and apologize to all.

I don't get writing racist stuff about your own race. Never have, never will apologize for being a complete tool in that part of the thread and deleted all the posts related to taht.
