Ride it BGrantFan come out of the shadows when someone fucks up. Yes I'm part hispanic actually my Grandfather is 1/4. And that of course makes me a hypocrite too. I wrote it in anger based on what I saw as a bunch of racism. Before you ask I'm part black as well. Have to go back a few generations on both but its there and I've been aware of it for years. Anyways I've said my apologies I'm done now.
And smart cap management will help to get us there. OKC needed draft picks; we need impact players. I'm assuming that Cho is intellectually nimble enough to alter his Thunder strategy. It's fine to disagree. I really dig the guy; I understand why others are uncertain.
What kind of "rock solid evidence" could I have? You essentially provided nothing other than he assisted and helped out with the contracts of 4th tier NBA players and is a "good people person". Wait, he also designed some mysterious scouting methodology that we've never heard of. I'm sure that's good enough to manage one of the most promising teams in the NBA that is seeking to get to the NBA finals in the next 2 seasons. Smarter people are in charge? Yeah, I'm not the one who fired Pritchard without a replacement in mind.
Thanks for framing it the right way. That's exactly it for me, but I was unable to put it into words. When I view the other candidates (and especially the candidate we're interviewing next), I'm overwhelmed by indifference. Repped.
The thing with Cho is he's likely to favor statistical analysis over basketball common sense. What works in a video game versus what works out in real life. If that's the kind of franchise you envision, where parts can be interchanged due to trends in their performance numbers instead of having a master plan/vision...so be it. I don't think its a way to build a team.
Well, when KP took over, our franchise was a fucking mess and he had the ability to make risky moves. We're a team on the edge, do we really want to hire a guy this unproven?
He's a big proponent of statistical analysis, cap numbers and the collective bargaining agreement. Great. What about actual basketball. Just because he "lives and breathes" basketball, doesn't tell us anything.
remember, David Khan was once "that guy". Young, brash exiciting GM....made some trades to make a splash and stacked up draft picks. I'm afraid we'll be in the same boat. I am just generally leery of "capologist" types. I had the same worries about Tom Penn, cap genius. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4193432 see how that works out....
Right, because Kahn and Cho are both salary cap experts, that means they are both likely to make terrible GM's. I see how your logic works. Fantastic.
Perhaps he's the best of both worlds? A capologist with a great basketball mind. He's highly regarded by front office types around the league for a reason, something I'm not sure Kahn ever was.
I'm more a fan of having the numbers guys be PART of the organization like a scout or a consultant, not the head of the organization. we don't have any indication that Cho is ready for any of it all.
