General manager Jed Hoyer has every intention of making a deal or two to improve the first-place Padres and bolster their chances of making the postseason. "I would strongly like to make a move ... not a cosmetic move but one to make the team better," Hoyer said. The time to make such moves, apparently, might be closer to the July 31 Trade Deadline than it is today. Hoyer, in meeting with reporters before Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, said the "asking price has to come down to make a deal." Hoyer said the Padres, who enter the second half with a two-game lead in the National League West, could possibly add a position player and a pitcher before the non-waiver Trade Deadline. "We're not limited to one," Hoyer said. "We're casting a wide net. We have the resources to add multiple." Hoyer, who wouldn't acknowledge which piece is the bigger priority, did say the team needs to "add some innings between now and the end of the season." The Padres have received numerous inquiries about their top Minor League pitchers -- with Simon Castro, Cory Luebke and Ernesto Frieri drawing most of the attention. http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/news...d=12296474&vkey=notebook_sd&fext=.jsp&c_id=sd
