I just think its important to have personable guys who have been in the league a while and have some basketball experience + prior GM work. Look at the GMs of the last champions:

    Mitch Kupchak
    Danny Ainge
    RC Buford
    Pat Riley
    Joe Dumars
    Jerry West
    Jerry Krause

all basketball guys. When you say the future of the league is capologist-types..what, maybe we should hire something like McKinsey consultants to run the team? It seems very corporate-y.

Actually, all the reports out of NJ indicate Kiki was primarily a yes man and fall guy for Thorn. His big contribution was (drumroll please) clearing cap space. There is also the small matter of him being kicked upstairs in Denver so Warkentein could actually run things.

Kerr maybe - but Kiki is the type of retread I want nothing to do with. IIRC, Kerr owns stock in the Suns, so he isn't actually available to any other team (unless he divests).

Funny how some of the same people who ripped Pritchard seem to be fans of Cho, who is Pritchard without a depth of scouting in his background, but more Penn-ish in terms of numbers.

If he was the #1 choice, I could see it, but we're seeing retreads turn down the Blazers, which is somewhat troubling. I just don't see how anyone can look at this mess and not see a franchise in turmoil; then again, nothing here surprises me anymore.

KP was an unknown before he was a known, and we have some of the best scouts in the NBA at this point.

As far as we know all three of the main candidates are still under consideration. Brian Smith from the Columbian reported earlier today that his sources told him that Ferry is still interested in the gig (after losing out on the New Jersey job) and frankly I don't see why any of us are so certain who the best candidate would be. It's not like we've seen how these guys operate a team or have been behind the scenes as they are crafting deals and working the phones.

My guess is that each candidate in the interview process was asked about their basketball philosophy, what they think they can do with the current roster and the current amount of assets at their disposal. Likely, whichever seems to have the best ideas and particular combination of whatever the hell it is that the Blazers brass are looking for in a GM will be given an offer. I don't have blind faith that Larry Miller, Bert Kolde, Todd Lieweke, and Paul Allen will pick the best man for the job, but from those three candidates it seems like you'd be hard pressed to get a real stinker ... I mean we're not talking about retired sports writer in David Kahn (Wolves), or a grade A scumbag in Larry Riley (Dubs).

That blazers team sucked. This one is already built for a run. Once we are lotto bound maybe we hire a guy like cho

Who ripped KP? Other than MIXUM, I can't think of anyone who did, and I can't think of (m)any that have been recently/since his dismissal.

I'm sorry to see KP go, but I've defended management against claims that they are incompetent. Some of us, too, have questioned whether KP is as good as many here have given him credit for. That's not the same as "ripping KP".

Unless maybe you mean when he was hired. I don't remember anyone being anti-KP when he became GM.

I don't know why people think they know who the top choice is or who has been offered the position, or who has turned the Blazers down. It seems like a lot of guesswork to let it determine whether you agree with the hire or not.

just no. Get over your bitterness that you're outside the loop and always will be. Fans are along for the ride and don't get a say as to the direction of the team, they can only choose to follow or not. Speculating whats what doesn't bring anyone closer to the truth, it's just speculating. Talk sites such as this are just for swapping speculations and talking hoops, but we don't know shit

Daryl Moreys team has never done anything and Theo Epstein out spends every team in the MLB except 1.

    Otherwise great examples.

Please for the love of all that is holy quit telling us we should hire Cho because Daryl Morey.

So if PDX interviews a college student for the job that's fine because Pritchard was a college student once too.

Go back and read the thread a little slower.

What does your above quote have to do with Morey or Cho?

I think this is getting a little too deep for you.

No one is saying that inexperience is a good thing. Just that it's not a deal-breaker... I don't know there's any evidence that the experience level of available GMs is indicative of ability to do the job from day one.

Nothing, but you seem to support Pritchard. Or are you going to denounce your love for him too?
