OT - Question about Miami and James Jones

    Calling all capologists... Miami bought out their contract with James Jones... and then re-signed him. Doesn't this seem like a salary cap circumvention? I know all of the money they bought him out with doesn't disappear... some or part of it is still on their cap right? Even if it all was still on their cap... the same team is essentially paying him twice nwo right? Just curious how that was allowed.

    He had a partially guaranteed contract, so when he was waived that money got removed from their cap with only the guaranteed portion counted against them. Once he was waived/released he was a free agent and they were able to sign him using the veteran's minimum to bring their roster up to the league minimum of 12 players. Totally legal under the rules.
