Did you know that the US hasn't won the World Championship since 1994!? I'm guessing that's not about to change.
That frontcourt looks disgustingly bad. They'll pretty much require Durant to carry them and I doubt it'll happen against such experienced international players. I don't even know if we'll place in the top three.
Basketball is a team sport, but the NBA has slid toward individuals and superstar treatment. The teams we lost to didn't up individually... but yet we did lose. I actually love to see it because I think the NBA game has become pretty ugly. The NBA created superstars like Shaq, with less skills than a typically grade school player, with his main skill of spinning to knock a player backward and then dunking or putting up a short shot. We relaxed traveling calls so just about anything that ends in a dunk goes. We drafted younger and younger players and shoved them on rosters with less and less skills... hoping someday they would learn the game. We annointed players as all-stars before they even stepped on the court. Anyway... until we have a team that actually PLAYS together... it will be hard to always win. I think we'd have a better shot at sending our NBA champs honestly... instead we send a collection of players with very little experience together. Fine for gold.. but Basketball is a team sport.
I count maybe 3 or 4 reliable shooters in that group and not nearly enough skill players at the pivot. They're going to get run.
Oh, the realgm headline originally said Brooke. I guess I should have expected it to be incorrect considering whoever writes their wiretap is apparently incompetent most of the time.
