Arsenal have begun their annual pre-season training camp in Austria with some notable absentees--William Gallas, Mickael Silvestre, and Eduardo.

Gallas is expected to sign elsewhere this summer with Panathinaikos apparently leading the pack. Likewise, Silvestre is expected to move to the UAE to play for a team in Abu Dhabi.

According to reports Eduardo is on the verge of a £6m move to Shakhtar Donetsk after undergoing a medical in London, despite a vote of confidence from manager Arsene Wenger just a few weeks ago.

Re: Eduardo not with team in Austria, expected to be sold

Croatia's manager Slaven Bilic spoke about Eduardo's move to Shakhtar, more or less confirming that it is happening.

I shall miss him. His story would of unfolded differently if he didn't suffer that injury.

I'm a little shocked the best offer we got was from Shakhtar. WTF is Shakhtar? The Ukraine? Is that the best Eduardo could do?

They were actually trying to go after Robinho, but Eduardo is a good consolation prize

Former Arsenal star Eduardo told by Shakhtar: You must learn Russian in four months

Eduardo da Silva has been told he must learn Russian within four months following his £6million move from Arsenal to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Ukrainian champions have made the demand as part of Eduardo's new £50,000 a week contract.

Eduardo said: 'I'll spare no effort to learn the language, especially since a lot of the words in Russian are similar to Croatian. I'm ready to talk to anyone, but, honestly, I don't really like talking to journalists!'

There is a chance that Eduardo could line up for his new club against the Gunners in the Champions League.

And the Croatia international said: 'Shakhtar are now a highly respected team in Europe. They may meet any team, including Arsenal. I'll play against them like I would any other.'

He had to pass two medicals before sealing the move, with particular attention paid to the ankle that was infamously shattered at Birmingham in 2008.

Eduardo, who is not expected to play for a fortnight, insisted he had long since put that incident behind him as he prepares for a new career.

'It's all behind me,' he said. 'I'm ready psychologically and physcially. I've played in the English championship, so there are no problems (with the ankle).

'The only problem now is to prepare for the Ukrainian championship.'

Russian in under four months? That is impossible!

As he states in the article, he already speaks Croatian, so he's got a bit of a leg up on the challenge. I think four months to learn any language though is asking a lot, regardless of how many you already speak.
