The U.S. squad had their first practice Tuesday as it prepares for the World Championship in August. Lamar Odom had not picked up a basketball since the Lakers won the NBA championship and said he's not in good shape. "I'm in horrible shape," Odom told FanHouse. "But I'll get in shape ... I took some time off [after the Lakers won their second straight title]. This is my first basketball activity. I boxed and some things like that. But this is the first time I ran up and down the court and actually had a basketball in my hand." Mike Krzyzewski thought Odom's conditioning was OK. "Lamar said they had a long season," Krzyzewski said. "He's boxed. I asked if he got knocked out. He said he had not been knocked out. So that's good. He already gained a couple of points for Turkey by saying he had not been knocked out." Source: FanHouse
I am just imaginging how the conversation with Coach K went regarding boxing instead of playing basketball.
MANY basketball players box to stay in shape. Hell, I did it too back in the day. I like that LO is taking responsibility for his "out-of-shape-ness." Hopefully he works to be in the best shape of his career for next season.
