Against Phoenix Dallas will need their best perimeter defenders along with slashers. I would like to see a lineup of this against Phoenix.C Nowitzki -> DiawPF Griffin -> MarionSF J. Howard -> T. ThomasSG Terry -> BellPG Harris -> Nash. If Phoenix puts in Kurt Thomas than put in Dampier.
I think we are going to have to, but this would be my lineup:C-DirkF-KVHF-HowardG-HarrisG-TerryRok and I were talking and thought maybe Mbenga could play spot minutes at the center position since he can run and keep up with the Suns big men. I think if Kurt Thomas plays, that is a bigger advantage for the Mavs since we can play damp and diop more. I'd look for Daniels/Stackhouse to be great coming off the bench. If Harris doesnt do great, i'd look for Daniels to start since he's played well against the Suns as of late. 15 points a game in the regular season for daniels agains the Suns. Not sure if Avery does that, but it could work.
Griffin is a better rebounder and guards the 3 point line better than Van Horn. Griffin would take the pressure off of Dirk to guard Marion. Van Horn could come off the bench as the backup. I just think Dallas needs more defense than that.

Griffin is the type of player that can play great either way; coming off the bench or starting. I wouldnt mind griffin replacing someone come 4th quarter time when the game is close, but give me KVH the first 3 quarters.
Van Horn can't guard Marion. Marion would exploit Van Horn with his athleticism. Griffin though matches up real well with Marion. Dirk will give you more offense if he didn't chase Marion all over the place.

More likely on Thomas. Doesnt look like a big matchup problem.
If the suns go big than they play into the mavs hands. The suns will most likely go with this lineup.C DiawPF MarionSF Tim ThomasSG BellPG Nash.
Small? I say go big. It worked with the Lakers for the first 6 games, and they managed to win 3 games by doing that. The Mavs are a better more experianced team and could probably do the Lakers' job much more effectively.
I like mavs fans line up, but if they Mavericks are going to have an effective series (and there is a large chance that they will.) Griffin needs to watch marion. It's pivotal that Nash's go to guy is blocked off.
I think Dirk should guard Nash. Dirk is tall enough to block his shots. Might SOUND crazy, but there are a couple of plays when Nash is being guarded by Dirk late in the shot clock and Nash can't make a shot. For example, that shot in the season-opener at the end of double-overtime. Actually, I didn't mean to say that, lolz.I just wanted to say Dirk should be aggressive on offense and should guard Diaw or Marion.
Nash is way to quick for Dirk.. besides they need someone who can be physical with Nash and get him out of ryhtem.
This is the Classic question..Do you make Nash a passer, or a scorer? To add to what Lakaboys said, I say the Mavs need to shutdown everyone, and take their chances with Harris on Nash. Nash will get his points, because they are basically giving them to him, but if you keep Bell, Barbosa, and Marion from getting open shot consistently because of the collapsing defense, then the Mavs should be able to keep the Suns from scoring tons of points. And I do think if we drive into that donught like defensive center of the Suns(amazing, the Mavs used to have that same D, lol), and get easy points.I also think Nash will completely wear down having to guard Harris.Nash couldn't keep up with Tony P in last years playoffs, when he was running, and Harris isn't that much slower or any less of a finisher that him.
The Mavs are going to still take this series in 6,so whats there to worry about? If you took out the defending champs, you can surely take out the Suns that don\'t have Amare and suck at D.I say Dirks gonna abuse the suns this series and average 30 ppg lmao.
I have no doubt the mavs can score a lot against Phoenix but if Phoenix has another 127 point performances that is unbelieveable offense that I don't think the mavs can stop unless they put in Griffin instead of Diop or Dampier.Looks like the mavs are going with Griffin early. The suns are very active right now.
Dallas needs players on the court that can keep up with suns. And they need a safety everytime a shot goes up.
