Daniel Hudson would like nothing more than to take the fifth for the White Sox -- as in the final spot of the South Siders' stellar starting rotation. With just three Major League starts to his credit, though, Hudson knows on-field results will serve as the only form of convincing where general manager Ken Williams, manager Ozzie Guillen and pitching coach Don Cooper are concerned. "Obviously, I want to show them I can take that spot," Hudson said prior to Thursday's opener of a four-game set with the Twins at Target Field. "You have to throw better than I did Sunday, and my mindset is there right now." Hudson would theoretically replace Jake Peavy, who had successful surgery on Wednesday to repair a detached latissimus dorsi muscle in his right posterior shoulder. But a 23-year-old rookie doesn't simply replace a National League Cy Young winner. The right-hander needs to perform to the best of his abilities without worrying about who anchored the rotation slot before him. In order to improve on Sunday's line -- five earned runs on six hits over four innings -- Hudson must develop better control of his off-speed pitches. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/new..._id=12265916&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws
