The thing about Paul is: acquiring Paul slightly lessens Roy's value (certainly as we know it). The person who would most likely BENEFIT from Paul's arrival would be Greg Oden. So part of the point of acquiring Paul would be to pair him with Oden. It makes a lot more sense, if people think that Paul is all that, to trade Roy for him. Still want to do it?
I don't think Paul wants to come here if Roy isn't here and he definitely wouldn't stay longer than two years.
New Orleans is now in a pickle. They are at a disadvantage due to Paul going public with this. Them having to deal Okafur is not a necessity. Many teams are going to take a shot at going for Paul regardless. Those who do include Okafur in the offers have the best shot though. If I were Portland I would not necessarily inlcude Okafur for starters. The NO tv anchor mentions West. I would prefer West to Aldridge just due to toughness. But not so sure West has enough outside game to balance Oden's inside game. I would go for Paul, Posey and West, and include Aldridge, Batum, Miller, Joel, Bayless, Rudy, several picks and cash. NOH gets big relief http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28o5ewt
I don't think West provides much improvement on the boards or inside over Aldridge, and like you say, is definitely not the outside shooter that LMA has proven to be. With a low post presence in the form of Oden, I don't think anyone on the Blazers benefits more than LMA.
Paul appears to have no problem coming to Portland. I don't have the quote, but he recently made a statement like "Why would I want to go to Portland if Roy and Aldridge weren't there?" referring to Portland trading one of those two. I read this to say that he would like to come if they were both here, but not so much if they weren't. I think Paul would be satisfied in Portland as long as the team was in contention for the WCF every year. On Oden, part of me likes trading Oden for Paul because he is such a question mark. However, I think Portland has a much better chance of beating the South Beach Heat with Oden on the team.
Chris Paul hasn't exactly been injury free... over his 5 year career he's averaging 69 games a season. several others have flat said no, why don't you believe them? I wouldn't move Greg for him, let alone Greg + Nic. It makes total sense that NO would ask for this as they get the better end of the deal. Portland would be left with little inside game on either end and no starter quality SF. I don't think they could beat the Lakers or Rockets in the short term, which wouldn't exactly bode well for the chances of CP resigning. Lots of risk + limited reward = pass STOMP
You have to give to get. If that was New Orleans' absolute bottom line, then I believe you have to bite the bullet and do the deal. You can get by with a rehabbed Joel, Emeka, Camby and LMA in your front court.
They could also sign someone like Shaq for the vet minimum. Assuming Shaq was cool as a number 2 guy. I would think he would be at this stage of his career. Beofre people pile on about Shaq, he still had a PER of 17.92, and would make for a decent stop gap
I came up with that trade in my head last night! Damnit, Simmons, get out of my head! If I were Boston, I think I'd make that offer. If I were NO, I'd take it, but I'd trade Collison first while his value is high, because Rondo would take roughly 47 mpg. I'm not sure Rondo isn't a better player than Paul (or at least, if he ever learnt to hit an open 18-footer). What are their head-to-head stats?
No freaking way! You CANNOT trade Oden at this point. Don't forget that CP3 has had his injury issues too! Oden is our only shot at the LOB for the next 5 years regardless if we have CP3 or not!
how many times has Chris torn his ACL and/or had his knee scoped now? Last year he tore his meniscus & ACL but is that the only time? Anyone have a comprehensive rundown of the various surgeries dude has undergone? regardless, getting his knee scoped is a more serious injury as far as a player's future is concerned then anything suffered by Greg or Nic STOMP
Yep. No matter how good a trio of Roy/Paul/LaMarcus would be, they won't be better than LeBron/Wade/Bosh. The only shot we have of beating that trio is if Oden becomes a superstar. Now, some would say there's only a 5% chance of that happening (others would say a 60%), but it's the only hope we've got.
I'm starting to come around to this logic. Paul+Okafor totals about $27.5M; we'd have to send out over $22M to bring them back. Miller/Joel/Oden/Rudy totals $22.5, and might be enough to get them to bite. Leaves our 9-man rotation completely in tact, with Paul/Okafor replacing Miller/Oden. You've got to consider it, right?
Averages over the last 3 seasons... Chris Paul: 38 minutes, 20.9 pts, 4.6 reb, 11.1 asst, 2.53 steals, 49.5% fg, 38.1% 3pt, 85.5% ft, 27.3 PER, 123.7 OFF RATING, 105 DEF RATING, .260 WinScore/48 Rajon Rondo: 33.2 minutes, 12.1 pts, 4.6 reb, 7.7 asst, 1.96 steals, 50.2 fg%, 26.3% 3pt, 62.5% ft, 17.8 PER, 110.7 OFF RATING, 100.7 DEF RATING, .162 WinScore/48 Rondo has a better defensive rating, but Paul is superior in every other area. He's just so much better offensively that it more than makes up for Rondo's better defense.
Ok you've gone too far, you have GOT to give up one of LMA, NB or Oden. I wouldn't want to give up Oden but would straight across with minimal filler. I really wouldn't even offer that unless I was certain things would work out. Honestly, this is the MOST we could offer without involving redundancy (LMA) too many pieces for their roster (You could throw in Dante and Pendy) or involving a third team: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...radeId=25y6fz3 Portland Out: JPEC Miller Bayless Rudy Batum Camby Portland In: Okafor Posey CP3 Result for NOH: It saves NOH Mega bank gives them a legit center in Camby for two years, a stud at the wing in Batum, a shooter in Rudy and combo guard in Bayless to either start or back up Rudy and Miller/Collison PG: Miller/Collison/Bayless SG: Rudy/Bayless SF: Batum/Corpse of Peja PF: West C: Camby/eventually JPEC Result for Portland: PG: Paul/Johnson/Mills SG: Roy/Matthews/Williams SF: Matthews/Babbit/Dante/Posey PF: LMA/Okafor/Pendergraph/Dante C: Oden/Okafor/ Ekwebe? some other scrub? That looks mighty fucking tasty to me and talk about a consolidation trade! Oh you could throw in $3 million draft picks, rights to Euros etc. You could throw in Dante and Pendy for that Matter or Elliot Williams or one of the other rookies.
I don't think NO would want GO considering GO needs an extension this year and is up for a good chunk of change. I would think NB would be their target, especially with Monty there but hopefully Cho can work some magic where that doesn't happen. In Cho we trust?
