    It's clearly posturing.

If Chris Paul was traded for and we did not have to give up any of our main guys, I would be willing to give them our 1st round draft pick for the next 3 years or so. With that team, the 1st round draft pick is going to be really late in the first round anyhow, and with that amount of talent, we would be able to finally start reaping the rewards of the free agent tree with guys looking to hook up for a ring. Draft picks for about 3 years would hardly be needed.

You have to take that risk for a chance at greatness.

Here is my attempt. make it a two part trade.

    Part one
    NOH trades Chris paul
    PDX trades Camby, Batum, 3mil

    Part two
    NOH trades Okafor and Posey
PDX trades Przybilla, Miller and 3 mil

part one saves NOH 2 million plus the 3mil cash for a total of 5 million. part two saves 3.3million plus 3mil cash for a total of 6.3 million. NOH has immediate savings of 5.3mil plus 6 million coming in. They also have Joel Przybilla and any savings that come with his insured contract. They also get rid of the bloated contracts of Okafor and Posey.

Blazers can even swing a third deal which would give them another 3 mil and a scrub (perhaps rudy) for a scrub. Add in some picks, perhaps two first rounders. And I think this deal saves NOH a shitload of money, gets them a nice young piece in Batum, gets them some decent pieces for the immediate in Miller and Camby, gets them picks to rebuild with.

    Why split up the trades?

Each trade has a $3m limit. This way NOH can get more cash, which they want.

The Blazers can add up to 3 million cash with each trade. If they only make one trade, the Blazers can only send shinn 3 million. If they split up the trades the Blazers can send 6million or even 9 million in cash if they make it 3 separate trades. Shinn is one of the poorest owners in the NBA with an estimated net worth of only 100 million. Giving him 9 million directly, as well as the savings from the actual trades could have a legit impact on his net worth.

    "Go big or go home."

Standing pat is no guarantee of a championship either (in fact I'd wager it almost guarantees no championship). I'd rather go all in and gamble that Paul (in tandem with Roy and some other pretty good players) is the missing piece that makes us a true championship contender than stall out at the perennial "pretty good team" level; consistently getting into the second round or maybe even the WCF if we're lucky but probably never getting over the hump because we lack enough truly elite level talent.

If Paul leaves in free agency in two years because this team couldn't get over the hump then I'd rather endure another rebuilding period while Lebron, Bosh and Wade are dominating the league for seven years knowing that at least the Blazers went for it, instead of always wondering "what if"

Mwahahaahaha maybe this will shut up the people who thought he would be a rent-a-player. I knew we were too attractive for a guy like Paul to just be like, "no.... fuck those guys."

    OMG!

    Your right.

As well, Paul with his high steals numbers puts a lot of pressure on opposition's ball handlers. Despite not being a Rondo like lockdown defender, that pressure does help his team "slow ball", which is critical for setting up your defense.

Paul Allen and his big beautiful bank account.

Every trade can include a $3mil kicker going to NO.

    Two trades = $6mil
    Three trades - $9mil

Also, each trade has to "match" but there is tons of fudge room. If you craft each of two or three separate trades such that Portland always takes back more guaranteed salary then they send to NO, NO will cut their payroll expense by that amount. That could save them maybe up to another $5mil this season.

    Stop right there.

    Why would NO want Camby?

And, even if they did, would Camby be a happy camper there, or would he tell NO he would be a pissed off player?

I love the idea of splitting up the trades to give Shinn more money, but the NBA views that as circumvention (according to Storyteller).

NOH would want Camby because he only has one more year after this one where as Okafor has 3 more. Camby I believe has an opt out, and I can't see him wanting to stay in NOH so they cut salary that way. Also, there is a very good chance that he would take some sort of a buy out immediately that would save Shinn even more money. The fact is that every player they are sending has big contracts and to take them off their hands we need to send back some large contracts also. But even with Camby they would save a lot of money both immediately and in the future.

If Cho wouldn't include Batum he should be fired on the spot.

Batum is nice, but I don't think his ceiling is nearly as high as some here would lead you to believe. Not too mention we're talking about Chris Paul.
