Camby isn't going to get another 11Million guaranteed. Especially with the new CBA coming up. No way he opts out. (Does he even have an opt out clause?)
We'd definitely be going all in if we were to trade for Chris Paul. We'd be trying to win it all right now. But to that end, I wouldn't trade Oden since I view a healthy Oden as the piece that would be needed to get us past teams like LA/Miami. Without him, I don't think our all-in gamble would pay off. A healthy Oden/CP3 combo seems like a match made in heaven. And personally, I don't think it's necessary. I think we can 'Go Big' & put together the best package without including him.
No. But he does have some complicated incentives built into his contract. His guaranteed salary is 17 million for the next two years, with up to 7 million in additional salary if he hits his milestones. http://shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/blazers.jsp (hover over his name for details)
thanks for the update. Except that in the past there have been big deals structured as separate trades. So, what is that all about?
For once, I agree with you big time. With that said I think the only way we get Paul is you have to give up both Oden and Batum to beat other teams offers. It sucks, but it is very likely.
Why is New York a top his list? The Knicks would have to gut there young assets just to get him so it is him and Amare. Jesus, I do not understand this guy. I could understand Orlando being on top, but not the fucking Knicks. When can Anthony Randolph be traded again? It is not until awhile is it?
I would guess there's a difference between (a) making trades work by splitting them up (some players can only be traded on their own) and even in making a trade exception, and (b) in getting around the $3m rule by making multiple trades. If that were not a consideration, teams could agree to swap second rounders for the next X number of years, with one team sending $3m as part of each deal. The counter to my guess is that in EXTREME situations, it would be circumvention, but not in a less extreme case, but the NBA just might not like letting teams send more than $3m in simultaneous trades to avoid the slippery slope. http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wi...2/paul_to_meet_with_hornets_knicks_atop_list/ 1. Knicks 2. Magic 3. Mavs 4. Blazers Yuck.
A few possible explanations: 1. NY is not on his list, and it's just NY media hype/speculation. 2. Amare is a superstar in the eyes of many players, even if some on this board still prefer LaMarcus. 3. NY would have a chance to add Anthony as a free agent next summer. Amare/Carmelo/CP3 is a pretty good trio, and I believe Chris Paul talked about this possibility at Anthony's wedding. 4. NY is NY. The basketball mecca. If you make it there, it's the best place in the world to be on top. Not as part of a package, but he could be traded on his own. Ed O.
It is pretty raw deal, but I still take it as a positive that he has us listed at all. Of course, I still don't get why the Knicks are a top the list. I wish Melo would just sign his 3 year extension or whatever so that makes Paul eliminate the Knicks completley.
Correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I think Randolph can be traded even though he was just traded, because the Knicks are under the cap.
the only way to get Denny more money from this thread (besides the trade actually going down) will be to say the following: "I don't know that I'd trade Batum...this is a Jermaine O'Neal or Petrovic deal waiting to bite us in the butt. What, our starting backcourt would have 2 good knees between them?!?" and let the flames begin.
Ya, I get that and the only one that really makes sense is Melo possibly going to New York as well. Otherwise Paul should have no interest in going there, him and Amare + scrubs are not going to win much of anything, he keeps talking up how much he wants to win, and going to New York does not help that cause especially if Melo signs an extension with the Nuggets of some sort. So that really puzzles me. The other three teams could all potentially win with him on the roster, New York has not shot this upcoming year at the very least.
Agreed. And it's not like New Orleans will have zero say. New Orleans will want the best deal they can get in return, so if New York can't offer as much I don't think they're going to go out of their way to make sure Paul gets his #1 option. If Paul wants out, I doubt appeasing him is their top priority at that point. Plus, I like his top two choices being in the east. Worse case, the west loses another all-star and the west gets a little easier. And it's back to trying to get TP or something, or just a smaller consolidation trade involving Rudy/Bayless.
Knowing that Paul is demanding a trade and Ptd is on his short list, would you rather have Cho or Pfund trying to make that blockbuster deal?
Pfund. Especially if the rumors of Cho not wanting to let go of Batum are true. I will have given up on him and want him out of town if that were the case.
I'm indifferent. Pfund might have more experience, while Cho might have new ideas. Pfund might be more personable, while Cho might know how to work the salary cap situations better. Or maybe none of those things, since I'm just guessing. Net result: indifference based on ignorance. Ed O.
