We need to offer the MAX possible. We're NOT in some incredible bargaining position you have to give to get. Otherwise the Knicks will outbid us and we'll fuck up a once in a lifetime opportunity.

All you have to do is outbid everyone else, you don't have to offer the MAX possible. Last I checked we're not the ones under fire here, we actually are in a great bargaining position. I freely admit it would probably take more though.

You offer mine as the final trump card. Start low sure, and pray NOH comes back at you with escalating bids from NYK rather then just taking one. However, you HAVE to go big or go home IMO.

I think agreeing to add Posey would seal the deal. They could use West to get more young talent and then move Peja's expiring deal to get an impact player with a long contract.

The rule in these kinds of trades seems to be the team that acquires the best player wins. Everyone below our big three are replaceable. If your base is Roy, Paul, Aldridge, Oden, even Miami is worried.

    Truth.

Even Aldridge is replaceable, though I'd love to keep him and, fortunately, it's possible that Portland can since it's unlikely New Orleans would want him at his salary.

    Truth.

    What about this deal?

If Toronto sends out their Bosh TPE to NO, I think it works.....Although I am not 100% sure.

Portland would also give a 1st and 3 mil. to NO, and Toronto would give a 1st to NO.

Geez, that's absolutely terrible for New Orleans.

Ok, but I don't understand why NO would want to send out Posey with 2 more years and because the salaries of Paul, Okafor and Posey are so huge, we would be forced to include Camby, who has....

    2 more years.

I just don't see why NO would have any interest in Camby. They might as well keep Posey, who is a lower yearly amount, right?

Bigger relief when he expires by almost double then Posey that's why. Also he is immediately useful as they lack a true center. That's my take anyways.

Really it's JPEC or Miller for Posey and Camby for Okafor and Camby expires two years sooner then Okafor. That's another way to look at it. Again he is a useful player immediately making them a viable team.

So they get JPEC immediate or half-season relief, Miller relief next year and Camby relief after next season. All while letting them down gently and giving them a viable team.

2 1sts, 14.5 million in free money this year and another 3 mill from Portland, 2 expiring contracts and Batum? Sounds pretty decent for an owner trying to save money. It totally acomplishes that, and gets them a nice young player as well.

Re: TIme to work the Trade Machine!

Wouldn't they rather just do the straight up deal? Or, wouldn't Portland rather just do the straight up deal?

    Batum
    Rudy
    Bayless
    Joel
    Andre
    Jeff or Dante
    Elliot or Babbit
    3 Mil

    For

    Paul
    Okafor

Not only do the Hornets get more, but Portland keeps Aldridge as well. (I'm not implying the Hornets would agree to either deal)

I'm not sure you can use the TPE either.

Your deal would save them $6Million more this year, but with significantly less assets.

We'd be outbid in a minute by NYK or even Orlando/Dallas.

With what? NY has no 1st to offer. Orlando no young talent or expirings, and Dallas the same.

Uh, the talent level of Azubukie, Randolph, Chandler and Gallinari trumps ours in that tepid trade offer? You're probably right about Orlando, but Dallas has some intriguing packages as well.

This deal has the exact same players going to the exact same places but actually works under the CBA by Toronto using it's TPE to acquire our players, then the Hornets could recieve a totally new TPE by having the Okafor part of the trade as a non-simultaneous trade. That scenario would make your proposed trade work and net the Hornets an 11ish mil trade exception.

Re: TIme to work the Trade Machine!

    why not keep it simple?

    Oden/Bayless/Miller for Paul.

They add no long term salary (especially if they decide not to re-sign Oden) and do you honestly see them getting a better offer of young talent and short term? Perhaps New Jersey with Harris and Favors they'd prefer more, but Monty knows all three of those guys too, and I think they're likely still a playoff team with that lineup.

    Miller/Collison
    Thornton/Bayless
    Peja
    West
    Oden/Okafor

/\ not a terrible lineup at all.

    We'd be left with:

    Paul/Johnson
    Roy/Rudy
    Batum/Mathews
    Aldridge/Cunningham
    Camby/Pryzbilla

with Rudy playing backup 1/2, Mathews 2/3, Cunningham 3/4, and Pryz the 5. Depth may be a concern but I bet we could grab some other vet to fill out the roster.

I just feel that Oden AND Batum is pretty unreasonable when you consider what we're up against.

Wouldn't your trade put them over the lux tax?
