So let's say on the outside chance -- I'm talking infinitesimally small --that Chris Paul doesn't end up a Blazer, what other moves would you like to see as a backup plan for balancing the roster and/or improving the team before training camp? Stand pat? Address a particular position? What?
Would love a long term PG, but we have already exhausted those convo's we really need to get rid of rudy, and maybe rudy and bayless, get a better backup 4/3 maybe someone like carl landry, or bass/maxiell (if they could shoot) someone like that... would love that
Here are my off-hand ideas that would be more about balancing the roster than anything else (Warning: Some suck more than others). http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29fhwv8 Talk about a whole boatload of 'meh.' Or maybe this? http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2flg45j Williams doesn't excite me, but Varejao would be a nice reserve big man http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28mpoyx Would Sacramento do this? Pretty hard to say.
I like how you say we've exhausted talk about getting a long term point guard, but we haven't exhausted talk about a rugged back up power forward or getting rid of Rudy Fernandez. Really?
This is going to piss people off, but.... Dump everybody but Roy, LMA, Batum and (if you are a hopless optimist) Oden. Clear maximum cap space for the post lock-out era. If that means carrying 8 or 9 guys who are 2nd round picks, or vets' minimum, so be it. Post Sternagedon, have maximum flexibility, and try to pull a smaller scale version of what Miami did. If Stern gets his hard cap, it will decimate a number of teams. Be ruthless enough to take advantage.
Eww, I'd rather have Bayless straight up over Conley. Better fit, but questionable as to whether we're actually better. Now this is intriguing. I think Sac declines, but if they don't, would you let someone as talented as Landry play only 12 minutes a game behind Aldridge? He's not going to leapfrog LMA, and he's not playing SF or C either. It does give us a lot of flexibility going forward, in regards to other trades, so that I like. I also think Udrih is a great backup.
Don't worry...all signs point to Portland getting Chris Paul. (Man...I was saying that as a joke, but now signs really are pointing that way...! Still not willing to believe it will happen though. I can't have my heart broken again.)
All this build up for Chris Paul for so many years. It gets closer to possible with each passing month. This is going to be the biggest blue balls ever if it doesn't happen.
I think we keep Miller and trade a couple of SG's for a young PG with more upside then wither Mills or Johnson.
Suicide is painless, it brings on many changes, and I can take or leave it as I c h o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . barfo
Yikes, there really are going to be a lot of depressed people when we don't get Paul. Which, I'm still betting, we won't. Paul has zero leverage, and is as likely to get traded as Kobe was when he went on his little phone-camera-hissy-fit in the Summer Before Pau. As for plan B: do nothing until training camp. Seriously, I'm curious about Elliott Williams, and even if I'd be happy to unload Bayless, and am starting to think that a divorce with Rudy would be best for all concerned, what's the rush? [If we do try to trade for someone, I still say Varejao makes a lot of sense for both sides.]
This was funny. I think they will turn their attention towards Parker, Harris and maybe even Ellis. Regardless, I think the team will deal Rudy for sure, and Joel and Miller at the deadline.
Plan B - STAY HEALTHY! and package Rudy with Bayless and/or one of our rookies for either a solid back up PG or SF/PF.
I think there's a lot of merit to this idea. As it stands, we're already positioned for this (not counting Matthews). However, Roy, LA, Batum, and Matthews are due a combined $40M+ for the 2012-2013 season. If Oden's exetended, then we're at $48-50M for 5 guys. Probably not a whole lot of room on top of that if a hard cap is instituted.
