Why are MLS teams playing mid-season exhibitions? In any case I think Henry will work out well for them.
Cash money and they can play trialists or younger players who don't get a lot of time. In a very short-sighted move, MLS dropped the reserve league about three years ago so its tough for teams to throw young players into meaningful matches and of course, trialists can't play. There also tend to be a lot of players joining MLS around this time, so having these friendlies can get them involved with the team in matches that don't actually matter. There are minor soccer related reasons, but its mostly for the money and its a "Hey, look at me!" move.
Having these 'high-profile' friendlies is good for the MLS because they get some publicity and more fans in the States are interested. Also get a good bit of cash.
agree with both Ronan and Agoo... Although there are rumblings about USL and NASL being the new reserve league possibly, for MLS when they bring it back.
